Hi,
I've searched this forum many times, and have read a lot of good information...thanks for everyone's help. But my main question is still a little hazy, please help.

What DVD media is the best for use in burning PS2 games?

I've been using MATRIX DVD-R with no problems yet, but I will be moving soon, so my supplier will be gone.

What is a cost-efficient media that I can rely on? (keeping in mind I make PS2 games) Something from a large chain store that I should have nearby where I move to, or something online that they can mail to me.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Right now the best price for excellent -R media that your PS2 will love is:
 http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-...

WalMart is also a good place for Maxell and Sony discs .. they're not as cheap as Matrix discs, but they're a whole lot better!

i agree w/ catfreak on this one here...nothing better than Taiyo Yudens if you choose to order online~ :) and i too will recommend the Sonys and Maxells if purchasing locally~ :) also want to include Verbatim as well if buying locally, i've had nothing but great success using Verbatims (made in taiwan) for my backups. good luck.

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Thanks very much.

I was afraid someone would yell at me for posting in the wrong subforum, but I took a chance. I'm glad it worked out. ;)

I'm sure a Walmart will be close to where I'm moving to, but I've heard so many great things about Taiyo discs on here, so I think I'll try my luck on ordering via that link you provided.
100 discs for $27, that's really good, if they're as great as everyone says they are.
And I like how this online seller assures me that these discs are real.

Thanks again.

hi saabdrvr,

i've ordered THOUSANDS of Taiyo Yudens from supermediastore~ i have NEVER run into ANY fake TYs from them and they are my #1 recommendation to those looking online for genuine TYs :)

you should be just fine with them, a few members have run into a "bad batch" when it comes to TYs here and there, but that is nothing you should really be concerned about, it HAPPENS...even the best media producer will have a "bad batch" here and there, this is true with EVERY company/manufacturer (unless we talking about CMC MAG, then it's like 90% of all their media is a "bad batch" LOL)

good luck and welcome to AD~ this is the CORRECT forum to come to with issues/questions regarding media~ :)

catfreak is VERY efficient at finding good media deals~ i rely on him myself each week for the good deals hehe. (not that i need anymore but his info is very accurate and we have similar tastes in good media~ )

I'll see if I can squeeze some more MATRIX's out of my supplier sometime before I leave, then I'll be sure to use the site you gave me for the next time. I haven't had any problems with what I've been using now, and they're a LOT cheaper in price than 40 cents each.

Unless, between now and then, catfreak can give me an alert when he finds a jawdropper price!

Thanks for all your help.

Oh nevermind, I didn't add the coupon code and select ground shipping. That still is a good deal! I'll try it. Thanks again.

Hi, I'm new here. I know questions like this one have likely been asked a million times:
I am using TDK 8x DVDR discs and just did a default dvd rom copy of a ps2 gamedisc on a multimedia dvd copy/edit program. The burning process went over fine and the disc was at first recongnized by the system but the game was lagging bad just at the menu, and freezes during gameplay; after reset the system won't even boot to the menu.

Based on what I saw on the topics regarding dvd ps2 game copy here, I guess I'll try to use one of the programs that I can download from here like DVD Decrypter, and try to lower the speed to about 2x when copying. Is there anything else I should be doing? or should I be using a different type of DVDR? thanks

I assume that you used a TDK 8x DVD+R disc since it was booktyped as a DVD-ROM ... First of all, I'd be interested in knowing the ID of that disc .. is it a CMC Mag E01 or a RICOHJPN R02 .. run a check with DVD Decrypter ... CMC Mag stuff is pure garbage and TDK outsources the manufacture of some of it's media to them (yuck!)

I'm not a PS2 expert, but I have heard that the best combo is using GOOD -R media burned slowly (1x-2x max) ... Use Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Verbatim or Maxell and it doesn't matter what the rated speed is, just be patient and burn 'em slowly ...
