My playstation doesnt want to play dvd no more. Will an lens cleaner disc help

It still plays all my movies i put on dvd-r but it will not play retail dvds. I wanted to ask if a lens cleaner will help before i go out and play $20 for one. And when it does play the dvdrs, it skips a lot

First ensure the discs are clean and free of deep scratches (of course)

Second, I would clean the lens. You can get optical lens wipes or lens cleaning discs that have little brushes on them. (A cleaning CD will work just fine, no need to get a DVD version that may cost more). I wouldn't trust anything else on such a sensitive part.

Third, your laser lens or other laser parts may need to be adjusted or replaced. I don't know much about this as I've never done it, but I read somewhere that adjusting the lens is as simple as twisting it
