Your writer needs to be in DMA mode. Go to Device Manager and verify this. If not in DMA the uninstall the burner ( right Click) and then re-boot and let Windows re-install

you need to increase your Ram to at least 512.

Just to add to what Car.Mike said you need to update Nero. Don't add or update INCD. You could probably get by on the memory you have if you shutdown some background programs. I believe your drive is a rebadged LG but I can't find any firmware update for it.

Your Nero version has not changed. Update must not have taken. Current vs is 6.6.0.16. Try the update again.

Something strange is that it now shows your dvd writer to be a HP 640c which is an oem phillips drive.

This could be a reason why the burn won't work.

Stay away from memorex media.

Most any media will work for backing up files but for video reproduction you need good, proven, high quality media such as verbatum, taiyo yuden, maxell, sony mij, fuji mij (mij = made in japan), branded ritek ridata, Stay away from memorex, HP, phillips, no name, and retail store branded media eg. staples, compusa. Keep the burn speed to 4x.

lidorimo,
I agree w/ Mort81. Update Nero, and use better quality media as the burner is not recog. the media you use. Went to HP's site and they do not have a HP DVD Writer 640b but they have an e version. Where did you buy this burner

Hi Mort81,
Do you know the difference between the " b " and then " c" burners. I saw the "C" firmware as I went to the same site, but he has a "b" as per the log. His log shows HP DVD Writer 640b but I think he was on someone else's computer for the second log

Mike,

I believe the 640b is an oem LG drive and the 640c is a oem phillips drive. HP is bad about that. It's pretty important to know which drive he has cause they are totally different drives. I don't know which is his and which is his buddy's.

Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1
This is probably your problem. CMC MAG is one of the worst media manufactures there is and causes more problems than any other media I know of. Try some better media.

Your drive doesn't like the media you're useing.

You need to update Nero to current version:

7:31:03 AM #23 SCSI -1106 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1442
SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 1, LUN 0, buffer 0x00BC0000
Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

Doesn't like the blank media

7:31:03 AM #24 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
Power calibration error
The burner tries to do a calibration to write correctly to the blank media and this one failed. Why use an RW unless you are experimenting. Try another RW - but a new one and make sure it is a different Manuf. Try Verbatim or Maxell RW if you can find

That should be good media unless they are fakes.

Mort81,
I saw the Yuden's and I considered possible fakes but what really bothered me was the power calibration error. Possibly could be just a bad RW or the burner just does not Yuden or the burner's manuf did not include a firmware code for Taiyo Yuden. Most companies include Maxell w/in the firmware and they are usually pretty good. They can be found locally, at least where I am.

Yeah the f/w seems to be current. Maybe Nero update will help. Everything else looks ok.
