i have added an lg dual layer dvd rw to a 1 gig p3
the computer repeatedly reboots during the reading stage, usually 20-30 min into it.
have run adaware, spybot, norton and found nothing.
could this be a fluke with the dvd rw, or dvd shrink? ram? (256)
any suggestions are appreciated.

it sounds like to me that the computer is over heating. not sure what program you are using but most of them use alot of your cpu and the pc can over heat. try to open the case and maybe have a fan blowing on the cpu to cool it down.

I have to agree with Tick on the overheat thought. Let us know if that corrects your problem with your PC.

for the record, the op sys is windows me. If overheating, wouldn't the sys just lock up... go into a reboot. I think i previously had a fan go bad on a different sys and it just locked up.

anyway, willopen it up and try.

thanks.

you guys are right on track. it did run all the way thru to ready to burn.
trhanks

now the next problem.
the first time i got 'illegal disk' (using verbatim)
trying again, it started to burn on a different new disk, started to work for a few minutes, and curiously real player opened up.

when i closed it a few minutes later, the burn crashed.

so if i am somehow using real player to burn, how do i switch to one of the other ones to use as a burner, (such as Nero express, or what came with my pioneer (full nero)

also, when backing up, it only showed a top selectable speed of 1x,2x, and 2.4x, not a whole variety like my other dvd writer.

thanks

The DVD ur trying to backup... The VOB files may bot b asociated with Nero at the moment and the defualt setting is with real player...

Try to right click on a VOB file and change the file type program assocation to Nero...
