Hi,
I am pretty new to the burning dvd society and I am totally confused when pple talking about firmware. What is firmware? What does it do?
What is booktype? How to do the setting of booktype???
I have a benq 1620 dvd writer. How do convert a download file (rmvb) to dvd format??? What are the programes to be used. What are dvd media that can be trusted. Can I fix 2 or 3 dvd burners in one pc???
What is the correct speed to use for burning??? What is the best dvd media for all dvd player even the olden dvd player.??? What is the best converting software?????

wow, lots of questions in just one post.
lets start here.
firmware is the information your dvd player uses to read, write, play, operate, etc.
booktype/bitsetting is changing to dvd-rom (more universal) rmvb IS a video file (real media variable bit rate).
nero can re-encode that
dvd media to use/trust are verbatim, taiyo yuden, fuji, sony, maxell (made in japan on the last 3)
speed for burning..... 4x or less
generally, dvd players that are older then 3 years old will play/read DVD-R and players newer then 3 years read/play DVD+R (thats where booktype/bitsetting come into play.......ie; making them more compatible with stand alone players)
best converting software is a matter of choice and what works for you. i use Nero for all my needs, but since having discovering another format, thats all i use now.

winavi may work for you also try DivX too

This is how.....

Get the free player from RealMedia(currently version 10).
On the install, click on the '+' icon next to divX(you'll see it) and uncheck the 'install 60day trial' or whatever it says, then continue with the install.

this will instal the realmedia video codec, which is what you need to view and convert RMVB files.

then get yourself a copy of WinAvi and convert the RMVB file to an mpeg Layer-2 file (this will increase the file dramatically, but do not worry.)

you can now play the RMVB file in realplayer or play the mpeg file in anything else.

If you want, you can re-encode the mpeg at a lower rate(especially audio(to 4000)) with something like Ulead DVD MovieFactory(fantastic app). You can then use any authoring software if you wish to burn the file to DVD or SVCD.

Using TMPEnc, you can de-multiplex the mpeg into audio and video, and then recombine them as sometimes converting RMVB files can cause the audio to be out of sync with the video.

Your drive is capable of booktyping dvd+r/rw media to dvd-rom. You can google for the booktype management utility. Give us your current f/w vs and we can check for an update.

Monster18,

F/w = firmware. Use this free proggy http://www.vso-software.fr/inspector/inspector.htm click on drive features and tell me what it says after revision. That will be the f/w.
