DVD Stillshots end up warped

When capturing still images from an mpeg stream (DVD) (I use VirtualDubMod to save) the images look slightly off (ie: slightly elongated faces). I looked to see if there were any adjustments to make for this, but wasn't able to find anything obvious.
Movies this happens with is The Exorcist, and ET.
Does anyone know what the problem is and, moreso, how to correct it?
I can bring the still into Photoshop and stretch it manually - but how daunting can that be for a collection...
There has to be a better way.

Pixels on DVD's aren't square, where as pixels on a PC are. The DVD is stretched on playback.
You could batch process the lot to resize them.

Do you know the correct proportions, etc?
I have taken the stills already. I have Photoshop, VirtualDubMod, Acdsee, et al. Is there a proggy that could do this for me.

Also of note, not all the stills I've taken from other movies have this problem.
I took stills, using VirtualDubMod (same version), from Wizard of Oz, and they are proportionally correct.

Maybe Wizard of Oz was just 4:3 and you thought that it was ok since 4:3 isn't resized as much?
You never said if your source was PAL or NTSC. For batch image processing though I would probably use Irfan View.

This is NTSC. More recent movies that didn't need to be altered include "Mommie Dearest". I have IrfanView.
Do you know what the proper sequence would be to process the image (to stretch it back to "normal") - the ratios, etc.

I can post a sample shot (private via email) or post info on one of the images if that will help...
I don't see any way to alter this properly in Irfanview. Photoshop allows you to arbitrarily stretch the image - via "Free Transform" - but that's not consistent.

Maybe the correct direction here is to do with VirtualDubMod and how the stream is extracted from the DVD itself. Perhaps another program (or VirtualDubMod) can be told to rip in a certain fashion, applying filter changes to the sizing?
A reasonable question.

In Irfanviw under advanced options you can set the resize when batch processing.
VirtualDub(Mod) can resize, however it doesn't automatically read the inputs AR info and do so like is done for regular playback.
