OK, so I'm planning on ordering a 100 pack of Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs from Supermediastore.com and I'm curious to know which ones I should buy. Should I get the Taiyo Yuden Genuine 4X DVD-R Media Silver in Tape Wrap (DVD01X0238) or the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media Silver Thermal Lacquer in Cake Box (DVD01X0165). This is the first time for me buying this media. I figure that I'd try them out since most people prefer this media. Which one of these work the best?

I would go with the 8x one cause u have room to move then...

Both though seem good cause they are TY's...

 I would buy the ones that are the best price .. You really don't want to burn any faster than 4x anyway ...

What i meant by this is that if u want to burn faster than 4x then u have other options... Yes i know ideal speed is 4x. But i have backed up many dvds now and all of thewm have been at max speed and i have not run into a problem as of yet...

I know with both my stand alones one can fast foward at 8x and the other fast fowards at a max of 12x soo i just leave it at my deafult settings on all my pc's...

I ordered the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media Silver Thermal Lacquer 100 Pack in Cake Box Spindle and my total was $45.06 which isn't bad.
I usually buy the Fuji 100-Pack 8x DVD-R Disc Spindle when they're on sale at Best Buy.

im assuming you were using the 8x DVD-R Fuji's that are MADE IN TAIWAN...which are manufactured by Prodisc, NOT good media~ :) unless you were lucky enough to find some MADE IN JAPAN fuji's 8x DVD-R which are TYG02s...genuine Taiyo Yuden media which is GOOD STUFF~ :)

either or...you made a wise decision on purchasing GENUINE Taiyo Yudens from supermediastore, i have MANY of both the 4x and the 8x, quality wise, they are equal~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Yeah, the Fuji DVD-Rs that I got were made in Taiwan. I've never had a problem with them. I'm sure I'll like the Taiyo Yuden media much better though.

I'm currently using LEGACY 4.7GB 8X DVD-R 100 Pack Cake Box Disc (Model #: R8X100CB) that I got from newegg.com. Is this good media? It got really good reviews on newegg.com, which is why I ordered them. The price was pretty good too.

what is the media ID coding on those?

is it :

Legacy DVD-R 4.7GB TYG02....... 8x

(which i BELIEVE are fakes, but, i don't know 100% as i have never used "Legacy" media before, so unless i can actually see the disc, i can't give you a definitive answer whether they are FAKE Taiyo Yudens or not)

or

Legacy DVD-R 4.7GB GSC003...... 8x

(reading other people's comments, some have fair results if burned at lower speeds, but, like i stated above, i have never tried "legacy" media before so i am unfamiliar with that coding; but, i can SAFELY say, the Taiyo Yudens you ordered from supermediastore will be MUCH better than these)

i have a VERY strong gut feeling that the 1st one with the TYG02 coding is FAKE Taiyo Yudens (as im assuming that Legacy media is MADE IN TAIWAN, and you will NEVER get authentic Taiyo Yuden media MADE IN TAIWAN, they are ONLY produced in JAPAN~ )

They're GSC003s. I had to run DVD Identifier to find out.

I don't think NewEgg would carry the ones with the "borrowed" TY code...

@teflonmyk

well, as i had stated, i never used "Legacy" media before, but, it really isn't up to newegg to determine authentic TY media or not, IF the legacy media is MADE IN TAIWAN, then they DID in fact "borrow" a TY coding~ i have ordered from newegg MANY MANY times and have been very pleased and recommend their company to all my friends; however, i don't think they will KNOWINGLY carry a verified fake TY discs, but that is not really their problem since they just carry many different brands of discs from different manufacturers. :)

im just trying to find the origin of the above Legacy discs with the TYG02 coding, only thing i can say for SURE, is, IF THEY ARE MADE IN TAIWAN, then they are FAKE TYs :) whether newegg knows about it or not, and from a practical standpoint, i don't think they care; they sell SO MANY products from their website, their knowledge about "fake/genuine" TYs is probably the LAST thing on their minds.

@js78,

First of all, if you want genuine Yuden, then you need to verify (make sure) that they're "Made In Japan". If it doesn't says; "M.I.J", then it's more likely to be "fake". However, supermediastore.com is pretty much reputable and they sales legit Yuden, so get either 4X or 8X is fine -- they're both high quality media in my opinion.

How's it going Doc. aka kivory666? Nice seeing you this time bro.

Yep.... that is the famous Yuden 8X DVD+R (silver inkjet printable) I got from "supermediastore" last month. I have about 15 blanks left to do some burning. I guess, my GT4 sig. has been laying around for awhile, so I end up changing for a new look.

So you like my new picture too huh? Thanks for the compliment. Yep.... that is the new picture from Jet Li's upcoming dvd "Unleashed: unrated version."

good to see you around this time too alkohol~ :)

i'm not on here as much as i used to be, but, i still find the dvd-media forum my 2nd home~ :P

i actually prefer the silver inkjet printables over the white ones, that is just a personal preference, but, i definitely use the TYs when i do make them~ :)

how is that movie by the way? i'm a big fan of Jet Li and that cover came out really nicely for you...i don't use my Epson R300 very much anymore; as of late, i got a new pack of multi-colored Sharpies and have been having too much fun...my wife has also been "doodling" on my dvds to add that "extra flare" to it~ :) gotta keep her happy ya know~

good to see you around though, have a good one~ :)

Taiyo Yudens ROCK!~ (in any speed/format/printable/shiny silver) hehe

Definitely, Taiyo Yuden ROCK..!! To be honest "Unleashed aka Danny The Dog" is one of Jet Li's best movie he'd ever made since he left his Hong Kong root. Honestly, I think Unleashed is like Taiyo Yuden and his previous Hollywood movies (excluding his earlier Hong Kong movies) are like Memosux CMC MAG. Jet finally unleashed his acting skills in this movie -- from drama (he even cried in the end) to comedy and pure raw actions. In addition, Morgan Freeman is awesome as always. Anyways, I don't want to ruin it for you. You'll have to wait for the upcoming dvd "unrated version" and see it for yourself, the actions are pure raw.

I've got the French version only, but I designed the "unrated version", which is the region 1 (United States) on my backup.

Again, for sure... the silver inkjet Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R printable kick @ss.

@davidw001,

Thanks for the kind words on my image/disc. What printer do you have? I have the Epson R300 Photo Printer and I used genuine Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R Silver Inkjet printable dvd blanks from "supermediastore.com".

Yeah, I can't wait for Unleashed: Unrated to come out, so I can have another backup (I don't mind having 2 different versions). I've seen an article somewhere that mentioned an interview with director Louie Leterrier, and he said the "unrated" version will have all of the actions on it.

@js78, that alone isn't an indicator as to whether they're genuine or not.. you have to check the hub codes, ie codes stamped around the inner hub of the discs.... kivory666 or one of the guys can then confirm the codes for you....

GG000110 on inner ring. There's an indented code on the very inner ring that has GG at the end. I believe these were made in Japan.
