I have a bunch of 16x memorex, but now I want to get some good media. When I go to best buy how do I know I'm getting the good media from Japan? Also, how do I know I'm getting the good vertamin's? I really just need to know what to buy so I can get the good stuff and throw this memorex junk out.

 As far as the origin of the DVDs ... Look on the wrapper, it will have 'Made in Japan' or 'Made in Taiwan' printed on the label .. As far as the Verbatim discs (my favorite by far), they're mostly made in Taiwan and this is the desireable country of manufacture for them. The country of origin isn't nearly as important as the type of dye used on the discs ... Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and Sony all use the good stuff (metal azo dye) regardless of where they're produced.

catfreak's recommendations are dead on... I do burn to Maxell +R "Made in Japan" when I do back-ups for my friend, and they are pretty good. They ARE NOT TY and Verb quality, though...

Yeah, I see that they have the -R ranked right up there, but, interestingly enough, I don't see the +R. Don't get me wrong, the +R gives great results, but the TY and Verbs are better...

@drudo,

High quality media are Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell. You shouldn't have to worry much about getting any coasters from them media. They are in fact, top notch and rank as #1 class media. Go here http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm and have a look around. Now you know what to buy, so pass it on to other newbies.

NOTE: this is extremely important -- genuine Yuden can be found on the 8X DVD Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan." Maxell has 2 really good manufacture (1) Hitachi "Made In Japan," (2) Ritek "Made In Taiwan." You need to look out for Verbatim, make sure the manufacture code is "MCC003 or MCC004" and you'll be fine. If you happened to have a CMC MAG code on the Verbatim, then I highly recommend you to exchange it for a new batch that has a MCC003/004 code.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

@david20

i would seriously edit your post as "advertising" your link will get you banned here on AD~ if people wanted to shop @ meritline, they would just go to meritline, posting an "affiliate" link so that YOU profit is frowned upon. :) just wanted to give you a heads up before you are banned.
