Cannot get a single ISO file, multiple files instead.

On my desktop computer I get multiple files instead of a single ISO file. I can get the single file on my notebook, but I can only burn on my desktop.

Most decrypting (ripping) programs will do either VOB files or a single ISO file. If you really want to get an ISO, using DVD Decrypter just click Mode, then ISO Read. If using DVD Shrink, after you hit the Backup button you should be able to change the output to an ISO or even have it make an ISO and automatically start burning it with Decrypter.

I am using DVD Shrink and I have selected the ISO image output file. However, can I get the results I want (a duplicate DVD) by burning the multiple files. The multiple files have extensions I00, I01,etc. and one with MSD (or MDS).

yes you can, just choose the MDS file. It links all the other files together.

I have this some problem but I cannot get it to create and .iso file , even when i select the .ISO image output file. I could just use the .MDS file and .IO0, .IO1, but I cant get DVD Decrypter to do it.

seems to me that I read somewhere on here that Windows Xp makes ISO file and some of the older operating systems will only create MDS files. I know that's the way it was when I used Windows ME

@tmaxxfan: XP does create MDS files, but there is an option in Decrypter to have it not make MDS files. It's recommended that you do make the MDS files though, especially when burning to dual layer media because this contains the layer break info. The only difference I can think of is you get one ISO file or a bunch of I00, I01, I02, etc. depending on the file system used (FAT32 or NTFS), which is determined by the operating system.
@clpurtis: can you give some more detail as to what you actually are getting from Decrypter? What type of files are these?

Just for clarification:
Hard drives are formatted to either FAT32 or NTFS file systems.
FAT32 does not support single files larger than 4 Gig. That's why you're getting multiple ISO files.

If you are getting multiple files you have Fat32 as stated above, just open the mds file in Shrink or Decrypter if it is below the 4.3g limit. The mds file contains the info that will let the other programs rejoing all the smaller files back together. Your burned DVD will be exactly the same as if you had done regularly. Unless you are running Win98 I would think of reformatting to NTFS.

When I rip a DVD in DVD Shrink or in DVD Decrypter I always get one mds file and several (usally four) other files. When I then try to burn them with DVD Decrypter I open the file, where I sent the DVD, and it will only recognize the mds file. I then press the write button and it looks as if it is about to burn and then comes up with an I/O error that is as fallows
Device:[1:0:0] slimtype DVDRW SOSW8525 PRS9 (E:) (ATA)
ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition
CDB: 2A 00 00 ect.....
Interpretation:Write(10)-Sectors: 0-31
Sense Area: 70 00 05 ect...
Inerpretation:Invalid Field in Parameter List
and then I can retry or cancel
I do not think my DVD burner is broken because I have burned music files and pics. besides that I always get tha error.

It is because your hard drive is formated in "FAT32". To burn, just pick the .MDS file as instructed previously.
If your getting a I/O error, try it in a different drive, update your firmware, or try a different disc, thats it bottom line. (Those solutions were taken from LIGHTNING UK!)

Sorry if I misled anyone with my post, it was my understanding that Xp didn't create Mds files as i never get them when I backup movies. As I have continued to read on this thread though I have come to realize that the reason for this could be that I am using the NTFS file system rather than the Fat32. Thanks for the clarification, and once again, sorry if i misled anyone... Just trying to help

How do I know if I have FAT32? Can it be changed easily? Will I have to reload all of my programs?

If you are running XP then just open My Computer and click on your drive letter it will tell you. If you are running Win95 or 98 you have Fat32 and cannot convert. This is a guide on how to do it for XP from jmet at Digital Digest

( I just did this not to long ago, I did not lose any information/data after the process was done. )
