Thanks, creaky and kivory666. You see, I've been lurking, learning about T-Y and Verbatim dvd media. Man, what a difference quality media makes! Newbies like me, save yourself some headaches and buy Verbatim discs. Memorex media really is to be avoided, IMHO.

you're extremely welcome (and fantastic media choice - oh and have you come across the latest 'Verbatim TY' discs btw). people such as i write the posts the way we do specificially with lurking in mind, ie we are fully aware that a lot more people read stuff than just the participants in a thread. so we are careful to give unbiased advice that should be helpful to most. glad to see you don't pay heed to the bad media advocates, your wallet will thank you, as will your spare time as you won't be re-burning a few months later due to utter rubbish media :) :)

You see ppl like me only push quality stuff from experience and to save ppl money, some ppl who push bad media do it cus they feel they have to defend their purchase and like to belittle others. sorry for the little rant, i've been a tad wound up the last couple of days by smallminded comments. Hopefully newer ppl out there will see those comments for what they are. good day to you..

Im another Verb convert Creaky, after reading so much of your & Kivory's advice on it. I was quite happy with my Datawrite/ProDisc's until i tried to watch some films on them that i'd backed up about a year ago. they didnt work properly, so im now in the process of backing up all me stuff again onto Verbatim.

So, all you new ppl, listen to these guys here & dont waste a few hundred quid on crap media like i have. :(

@BigPantz
Good luck on backing up those discs up! Just did the same thing myself a few month ago. What a pain. And the errors! I used worse media though Princo & CMC. Luckily I had switched to Ritek and TY after only like 70 backups.
Yes quality media does make a difference.

I too am a Ty and Verbatim convert due to reading the posts by kivory666, creaky, nephilim, alkohol, and all the other members, telling about the woes of bad media.. I too thought a sucessful burn was one that gave no errors and played back fine. I didn't realize the disks could go bad over time until i started checking some of my "successfull" burns and started seeing errors. Some of the CMC MAG disks are harder to back up than just using DVD Shrink because shrink will pick up CRC errors and terminate. Then I have to rip the disk to the HD using DVD Decrypter, but I manage to get a good backup.
All you newbies who think you are saving money by using cheap media, you will find out how much that savings will wind up costing you in time and money in the long run.
Someone in one of these media threads said it best sorry i forgot who it was or where i saw it. It doesn't matter how great your tools are when building a house if you use rotten timber, you will still wind up with a rotten house.
I think using cheap media is like building a house on a foundation of sand, probably quick-sand.
I learned my lesson and i try to pass it along to my burning friends. They still seem to be convinced that cheap media is a great deal. I guess they will find out just how cheap that media is when they go to play back the movies..

very nicely reiterated maxburn~ :) brought a tear to my eye~ hehe

the woes of crappy media will always be seen in this forum, but we all try to educate as many people as possible as to the longevity and problems that will be apparent in the future using "cheap media"

glad you are a convert~, it's been awhile since i did a TY-campaign on here~ im curious as to see how many unspoken converts have taken my push for Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. well, good luck to all of you that have replied and to those that have remained quiet, stick with the good stuff, you won't regret it~

docTY out for the nite, good nite to you all~ burn on ~

Good to see some positive comments. The way some ppl defend bad media and question ppl like us, you'd think we get something out of dissing proven crap quality media and pushing the good stuff. But they don't realise all we get are less ppl having media problems and ppl like us getting wound up by their petty 'media challenges'. I dunno, kids 2day!.

Good day to you all, I think its time to get up now and check some posts

Wait a minute! Memorex is BAD?

Just foolin'!

I wish I would have dicovered AD and you guys sooner and saved myself from having to reburn all those cmc mags, the ones that I could reburn anyway! I wonder if memorex discs will work as shingles? My dog has looked a little damp lately. Well at least if I use them on his doghouse I won't have to worry about it burning.

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value

hi every one :)
seeing as this is a thread about Verb's i will not mention my Ritek. if the word Ritek happens to pop up it's my finger doing it's own thing again. (life of it's own) ha ha
however i also have tried my first Verb's (i bought 50 + and 50- to try after great pressure by creaky the doc and others who i have the greatest respect for) and all seems well
@mcookd hi and welcome :)
good choice. spread the word
