I am thinking of getting a few DVDs and then shrinking them and burning them from backup. But when they are on your HDD and you get them on DVD shrink, And shrink them, after that is there any decoding/incoding to do? I dont really know what decoding/incoding is so it would be helpfull if you briefly explained it. Thanks
Most newer DVD's wont fit on a regular blank disc. DVD Shrink compresses (transcodes) them, transcoding normally means a re-encoding process that changes the video or audio features so they fit to a regular DVD-5 disc and not dual layer. DVD Decrypter is better for putting directly to your hard drive because it breaks the "copy proof" encryption on a disc so you can make a backup. DVD Shrink will on older movies not all. Before I ramble more, just use Decrypter for the movie to hard drive. If you want to shrink the size for burn or to free up hard drive space use DVD Shrink after Decrypter has it on yer hard drive, delete your original movie from files and you have an 8GB movie stored as a 4GB.

Commercial DVDs are encrypted to prevent them from being copied. DVdDecrypter, DVDShrink, AnyDVD, etc break the encryption to allow the consumer to make back-up copies of the movies they own. DVDDecrypter can be downloaded from here:
