I can't ftp to my xbox anymore. It was working fine yesterday. The IP/default gateway on the xbox is correct(192.168.2.200/192.168.2.1). The IP/username/port I'm putting in to my FTP program is correct. I've also tried ftping through the web browser on my computer, and I've tried mapping the xbox as a network drive (ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.2.200:21) but nothing works. The xbox is set up to accept FTP, the password is set to "xbox." Yes, I'm on a 192.168.2.x network and not a 192.168.1.x network.

When I try to connect through the web browser or mapped drive, I get an error that I don't have permission to access it. When I try to FTP through ftp software (smartFTP, filezilla) I get a "target machine actively refused the connection" error.

Please advise.

Are you using a router or connecting directly with a crossover cable?

Since your connection was working and has now stopped, I'm assuming you don't have static IPs assigned. They've probably changed and are now conflicting with other existing IP's.

Static IPs, and I've tried both a crossover cable and through the router.

Follow the tutorial in my signature and tell me what kind of help you get.

Just before that though...reset your xbox's settings.
Change it to DHCP, save, restart ->
Change it back to static, save, restart ->
Try to FTP.

It's gotta be something small. Make sure DHCP is enabled on your PC. Enable DHCP on your xbox as well. Restart both your PC & Xbox and try to FTP again.

If you've tried the tutorial and you're positive you're doing everything right. Maybe it's hardware...have you tried different CAT5 cables?

@Mik3h
Thanks for the compliment!! Yes you can. What setup are you trying to FTP with? Thru a router or direct connect w/crossover cable? What issues have you had, if any?

Yes it can but:
-The cable must be a crossover cable
-Your xbox must have a static assigned to it
-You PC's LAN connection you're using must have a static ip

If all are correct, you should be able to FTP w/o a problem.
There is a tutorial in my sig on how to FTP that should help you out.

Ah, this is an ethernet cable, so I guess ill have to buy a crossover cable. My Internet is broadband ADSL so I guess my IP is static (It stays the same) And I guess Ill have to asign my Xbox a static IP through the dashboard then yeah?

You should check to make sure if your PC is static.

Go to My Computer->
My Network Places->
View Network Connections->
Right Click on you Internet Connection->
Select Properties->
Highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP->
Click Properties.

You will be able to determine in that window if you're static or dhcp.

If you are referring to the latests post between myself and Mik3h; your statement is right except for "Both the cables (crossover and straight through) work",. He's connecting his xbox directly to his PC (no router involved) see:
Quote:

. With that setup, from what I know, he can only use a crossover cable to FTP into his xbox. Standard CAT5 will not aid him.

If you were not referring to that conversation then I stand corrected because the later part of your statement was true. No offense intended but I just don't want anyone reading threads to get confused. Defeats the purpose ya know.

So Mik3h for the record:
You internet connection tpye (USB) is irrelvant. Using a crosoover cable to directly connect your xbox and PC is possible. A standaard CAT5 (straight through) will not work for your situation.

uniique1, I was referring to myself in that post, because I didn't know if you were talking to me or the other poster.

I guess I'm just going to redo my xbox.

OIC,
Well I did respond to your post initially; did you take a look at my tutorial? I don't think you need to redo your xbox. It's probably a simple setting issue that you've overlooked.

Yes, I followed the tutorial. I've checked, re-checked, and rechecked again the settings on the xbox. I didn't say in my original post that the ftp quit working in the middle of an ftp transfer, and now ftp doesn't work at all. I've tried everything.

Remember guys it's not supported by Microsoft. There is no guarantee that it will work flawlessly.

Heck if it was supported by microsoft, it would probably work WORSE. I am gong to try and move the IP of my xbox into the DMZ of my router...if that dont work, I would start to think something is wrong in my dashboard.

Ok i Know this is probably a stupid question but i have to ask it.

My Friends Dad installs mod chips But when i saw them i notuiced that the dashboard on the xbox after it was install looks different then the regular xbox one. it is blue and i doint think it is Evox and i am pretty sure it aint alalauch i was wondering if it i possible to somehow put Evox or Avalaunch on it even tho it seems to already have something else on it

PS i am really new at all this modding stuff.

Big Thanks To Jamaal10!

You're probably running your network: xbox to pc via dhcp...changing your xbox to a static ip and it should get it working again
