I have had this same problem before. It shows I am out of memory, paging file too samll. I got some suggestions for help before I got my memory upgraded to 512mb from 192MB. I finally got my computer to make a copy of Beauty Shop which seems to be a very big movie. I tried to make another copy and I got the same message again. I deleted the info and tried to make another Ram Idle that gives me memory info and allows me to terminate about 5 programs that allows me more memory but it doesn't seem to help. I thought upgrading my memory would solve the problem. Here is the info the Ram Idle is giving me
memory load- 45%
total physical memory- 448mb
available memory- 242mb
total page file(virtual memory)- 998mb
available virtual memory-742mb
Could someone please help me out of this problem. I am very confused now. Thank you

Is it a ram problem or is your hard drive full? You should have plenty ram to do the job.

Like club42 said, it looks like you have plenty of memory, but 2gh hard drive(i am asuming you ment 2GB) is not enough for a movie if you are ripping it to the hd. Also what program are you using when you get that message? and more computer machine specs/progams used, would help me and other to get you burning again :) .
I am new at this, just trying to help if i can.

My system says 1.99GHz, not gb. I rip with DVD Decrypter and burn with DVD Shrink. There has to be a simple way of freeing up some memory but I shouldn't have to. The Ram Idle gives me an icon that shows how much memory I have available right now and having gone from 192mb to 512mb, I am only showing about 130 free. That just doesn't seem possible. My old computer had less everything and I never had a problem. Maybe it's the Xp program. I used to have ME. Somebody told me there is a Microsoft program that can stop running background programs to free up alot of memory and it's free. Does someone know of such an animal?

The 2 GHZ is your computer clock speed and that is different than your computer hard drive size. Virtual Page Memeory uses your hard-drive as memory and your HD could be low on capacity or in need of de-fragmenting. It seems to me like HD problems would not come back as a memory problem in shrink. Another way to free up memory is to do a ctrl-alt-delete and look at programs running under task manager. You can kill off any program running before running shrink. Windows will scream at you for terminating programs that way. You may have many TSRs (terminate stay resident) programs that gobble up memory.
I haven't seen your error before when I use shrink so I am just grasping at straws here. If anyone else has seen this problem and found the fix please post it here. Gayle is barely burning.
Shrink is more CPU intensive than memory intensive but it does use your HD to extract files to. Again, I am no expert on this program (at least the errors part) I run it all the time and have had it terminate, but that was because I was backing up a bad disk.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help Gayle :( . If I can think of anything else I will post more.

@Gayle:

What other programs do you have open? As MaxBurn said, Shrink is very CPU intensive. You need to close other programs and let Shrink do its thing. Also, I suggest logging of the "net" (if you're on it) as that takes up RAM space as well.

Just a suggestion.

Good Luck!

Another thing that interferes with shrink sometimes is any anti-virus progams you have running in the background. We all use them to fend off the dreaded virus and trojan attack (the program type not the laytex type). Also DVD43 and AnyDVD might cause conflicts if they are still running in the background (i noticed you didn't mention you had those programs, just throwing that in to cover as many bases as possible).
Here is my method for getting a DVD9 to fit a DVD5 using shrink.
1. I put the movie disk in my top drive.
2. I put a blank DVD disk in the bottom drive (both of mine are burners so I can do that).
3. DVD43 running in the background goes from a yellow bland face to an angry devil as it hacks the encryption. Once DVD43 hacks it (about 10 to 20 seconds in most cases) the face turns into a green smiley face. Now any program should see the original movie as un-encrypted data (unless it is some new anti-copy which is always possible). It is still too big to fit on a single disk but Nero Recode 2, or DVD Shrink, or DVD Rebuilder Pro, should be able to condense it down to a single DVD5. I know some people say you must open the movie first and let it play, but I never had to do that on my set up. Whatever works i guess..
4. I open up DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 is the latest version (u might want to check and see if all your DVD programs are up to date) and select the Open Disk button. I select the drive where the original movie is at and hit ok. Shrink opens up and does it's first quick analysis. (btw, it is important to let us know when/where/what exact program you were using when you encountered your error, otherwise we are just guessing, stumbling around in the dark..)
5. Once the disk is opened up by shrink, it allows us to manipulate the disk. Since you posted the movie name (good going there Gayle as being specific really helps things move along faster:)) and said it was a big movie you probably need to manipulate things to make it fit on a single layer disk.
6. I hit the back-up disk and away it goes..
I left out the final minuplation part as going step by step is better done using one of the guides posted here.
Sorry if any of this sounds redundant. I also try many different free programs if i run in to problems and they are all here at this site under the software tab. Sometimes shrink can hang up or run into problems and that is when i breakout DVDfab decrypter, DVD Cloner2, DVD Rebuilder Pro, or something else to get the back-up made. By using different programs and combinations i always manage to get a back up of any movie. If i were more of an expert like ScubaPete or Alkohol I would have had you buring by now using only the programs you listed. I suggest you try following one of the guides step by step and post back where and when you hit your memory problem and which program you were using when you hit the error. Konfused1 has a link to ScubaPete's guides in his sig file. ScubaPete makes learning fun so give them a try :).
@Konfused1
Thanks for joining in buddy. I have to run but will check back soon. Between the two of us I have good hopes we can get Gayle burning again.
@Gayle
Hang in there you said you had a successfull burn of this movie, so it sounds like some kind of hardware/computer setup type problem and not DVD Shrink but I could be wrong about that..

Hey everyone,thanks so much forall your info. I have printed off everything for future reference. Actually,through trial an error,I got things up and running. Under the Ram Idle, it a;;ows me to terminate Windows Explorer. I didn't know what ir would do if I erminated it, but I did anyway. It didn't seem to affct anything,so I tried copying Beaty Shop again, and it worked. I have copied 3 other movies sucessfully doing the same thing. you have given me quite a bit of info to fall back on even if I don't undrstand it all. (I'm self taught pretty much). Thank you so much again.(By the way, I love Scuba Pete. That's how I learned how to run my movie programs!)

Not sure, but this could have something to do with it. Maybe the site you had just previously visited (whatever that may be) was "timing out" if not Explorer itself, this kind of leaves your PC in a somewhat "frozen" state. (I'm speaking from experience, mind you.)

Glad to hear everything worked out. Pass on the knowledge whenever you can.

@MaxBurn:
Great going, Gayle is printing out this thread with all of your great suggestions. Good Job!

@Gayle glad we could get you going again. Always here to help if we can. I've been thinking about your problem today, and was going to suggest even starting windows up in "safe mode" where it doesn't load all the drivers, just enough to get by, but that way is kind of a pain also. If your computer acts up again like Konfused1 said it may be something in the background locking you up or a site bugging your computer for info while you try to burn. There are two kinds of explorers in windows. One is the Internet Explorer (not needed and in fact should be shut down while you burn, and the other is windows file explorer which is probably ok to have open but like you said, thru trial and error.. I would terminate every program I could. The most you will do is lock up the computer, and a soft or hard reboot will bring it back with no damage if you didn't have anything else running in the background.
@Konfused1
It was a team effort here buddy. I couldn't have done it without you and club42. It really does feel good to see someone say they are back to burning again and to know that in some small way we made a difference. May your lasers burn brightly.. :)

Sorry forgot to mention you helped here also. It feels pretty lonely when someone needs help and it seems like you are all alone trying to talk that pilot into a safe landing..
