You keep the menu when you reauthor a disk? Question 1. If anyone knows , please feel free to answer. I read the thread where it describes how to combine the two sides of the disk into one. Question 2. Is there a better way? I mean I just want to use shrink and be able to put both sides of the disk that I have, of the movie The Color Purple. It sucks having to get up and flip the freekin DVD over. If anyone knows a way just using shrink. Please feel free to tell me. I mean why can you just encode both sides, and then combine them? Am I making sense? Why can't it be that easy. Please, if anyone knows, just chime in. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tony.

I've read forums about merging the "flipper" discs like Goodfellas or Sleepers or Seven, but every time I've tried it I was unsuccessful. Looks like for now you'll have to be content with flipping or reauthoring without a menu.

Actually you could use a program like DVD Lab Pro to create your own menu, but I don't think you can use the original that's on the disc.

@flamitaz, Helloe friend. Yes, it's very easy. I have used a variety of the programs that many use...shrink, Intercopy 3 paltinum, clonedvd2, and my personal favorite...DVD2One. It allows you to make them seamless or non-seamless. I use this with a variety of movies that were on two sides, or combining multiple disks onto one DL (Dvd 9) or single layer (Dvd 5). The guide on using DVD2One can be found at www.doom9.org and within this guide there is a sectio on using the joining feature. Works flawlessly. This program cost $ but in my personal opinion it is worth it, because it does a great job of processing. I then output the proces to HD and use a better program (Like Rebuilder Pro/CCE basic or HC Hanks, Intercopy 3 from Intervideo, or Clonedvd2.) I have used shrink to analyze both sides, save to HD then process then together through Deep Analysis, and the Sharp feature engaged. This has worked well for me. I like AnyDVD in the background because you just place the movie in the tray and begin processing. If you have any questions about the process just ask and I'll tey to help.

Trial versions are available for:
Intervideo copy 3 @ www.intervideo.com
Clonedvd2 @ www.slysoft.com

Shrink is free but I like Recode 2 just better is qualit and speed.

I use shrink by analzing the first side, reauthor then save to HD, then do the same process with side 2 or Disk 2...save that to HD open up the browse, find both and place in the re-author page...hit back up and the process begins...that's how I do it...others might do it in a different order.

ok. Thanks. Let me try the last method you mentioned, movidud. I really am a little skeptical of trying other programs, seeing as to shrink has performed wonderful for me. I have backed up around two hundred of movies I own, and have not had any, and I repeat any problems. None whatsoever. I guess I'm one of those lucky ones. But I realize there are a lot of features of shrink I have not yet experienced, and I would like to take advantage of all it has to offer. So I'll report back with the results.
Thanks for the help.

I?m wondering if there?s any chance of continuing this discussion? I?m very much a newbie, but I?ve successfully backed-up several movies using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Recently, after encountering some problems, I switched methods slightly and now rip to the HD using DVDFab Decrypter and then continuing on as I have in the past with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

I?m trying to backup my copy of ?Sleepers? which is on both sides of the DVD. I?ve ripped both sides to the HD and created folders titled ?Side A? and ?Side B.?

Using Shrink, I?d like to combine the 2 sides into on seamless copy retaining the menus, and to limit the chances of confusing myself further, I?d like to stick with using DVD Shrink, as opposed to getting involved with another utility.

If I understand the above correct, it seems the previous poster had the same goal.

Could someone please post instructions on how to accomplish this? I really need a step-by-step guide because I?m still a novice and my brain often begins to boil while reading posts from some of the more advanced users.

Thanks very much.

@McStagger - hi, i've had limited success with this method (i did Goodfellas and 3 Musketeers) though Musketeers had a gap in the film where the join was. no amount of faffing would cure it so i just burnt it to a dvd.

@creaky, I just sent a pm to McStagger, I wanted to clarify and make more sense for my method. I simply place the movie files on HD, then use open files, it will analyze, then I re-author, then in that same window I select browse, find the second movie file and place that in the re-author page, then hit backup and shrink does it's job. The page in the re-author mode looks like:

Title
Title (2)

I like to backup to a HD folder and burn with Nero, Copy to Dvd or if burning an Iso image using the new ImgBurn.

@McStagger, I hope you got the pm, and if I can help I will, I still use DVD2One beciase it has a better joining feature, so there is no gap, at least with the titles that I have worked with. I know you want to stay with shrink and that's fine, but as creaky said you might get annoyed with a gap. Have a good night burning buddy.

@MovieDud

What would happen if you joined the two movies with Shrink, then ran them through with no compression. Then opened RB would it then do this file and remove that gap?

By the way, is there anyway to go about combining the 2 sides and still retain the menu functionality and the DVD extras?

MovieDud, thanks again for the help. Yes, there is a pretty abrupt transition form "Side A" to "Side B," but the movie was successfully combined to one DVD (sans menus and extras).

Thank you very much for your assistance. It's much appreciated.

@arniebear, Yes, I have successfully done what you mention, but only using DVD2One, otherwise RB will see two video sets and process one and not the other. I noticed this with Dances with Wolves. RB processed the first vts and not the second, which was disk two. I also have used Remake pro to handle menus, but not with two disks to one and retain the full menu...I would like to learn how that way I could, except I usually do not do not keep menus.

good suggestions guys, i guess i should have been clearer about myself having a gap in the film, i wasn't sure if that's how that method always turned out. that was supposed to by my caveat for my own results, not a blanket statement.. i also didn't think to suggest DVD2One which i've used a lot for this (flawlessly)

@MovieDud

Thanks for the answer on RB I only own one flipper disk, so I think I am going to experiment with it. I'm with you I usually just do movie only and do not keep the menus except for TV series disks where I have split and want them on both disks.

@MovieDud and Creaky

I do not own DVD2One, but on your recommendations I think I will look into it.
