Help with Unlocking GWA-4161B

Can anyone help me as to how I can unlock my DVD-RW DL drive (LG GWA-4161B).

This is what I get using Disc Info:

The reason I ask is because it is a Dual Layer but can't see DVD+R DL Discs to burn as DVD-9.

That burner's firmware may not be able to handle those dl's. Here's a site you can get the latest update.

What is the brand name of those DL discs?

It that drive hooked up right?

When you say "unlock" do you mean firmware update to the latest?

I had a 4161 in Canada, LG would not support it saying its only supported in USA. But I could never find firmware for the 4161. I went to the above site, it's not there either.

Also, the drives seem to be locked with protection for the reading speed to limit it when duplicating originals. Don't know if there's any truth to that tough...

Thanx for the reply guys but I am tring to unlock the drive for the region is locked.

I even tried to update to Nero 6.6 Ultra but no difference. Drive not recognizing Memorex 8.4Gb DL DVD+R disks.

Download the free 21 day trial of AnyDVD by slysoft. It should make your DVD-RW drive region free. It's a very nice program for helping dvd shrink/nero and most other burn software to pull off the encryptions.

Seems to come with Packard Bell PCs iPower SLI, and it seems there no firmware update.
