I've read all over the internet about how HDA is just HDL, with changed filenames, backgrounds, etc.
People seem to be saying HDL is better, it's open, it's what was stolen to make HDA, it has the latest patches and features, etc.

I bought HDAdvance for 30 dollars. Mainly because it supported the larger hard drives, and was readily availible.

I'd like to use HDLoader if possible, however, from what i've been reading, with what i have, it's not.

I have a non-modchipped PS2. I haven't chipped it because it's an old unit, and it's getting to the point where you pitch it. I don't see the use in modding it only to try to move the chip into a new machine.

I have a hard drive, HDAdvance 2.0 pressed discs, and a memory card.

From what i've seen, in order to even get the latest versions of HDL to load on my console, i'm going to need a swap magic disc, a slide card or other way to get the disc out without the PS2 knowing, a PS1 game, and a slew of software.

If there's any other way to get HDL on the system, other than an Memory Card Exploit, then i'd like to know, before I get a newer version of HDA.

Yeah. Like you I also bought HDAdvance. It is a rippoff from HDL. The newer versions of HDL support larger drives and it leaves HDAdvance in the dust (your PS2 drive stops spinning after your HD is loaded). I can't post where to get it but if you google it, you can find it. The exploit is the way to go. That setup is freakin awesome. It takes alittle work but it pays off. You boot the HDL from your memory card using a ps1 game. NO SWAPPING NEEDED.

So from what i'm reading, no matter how 'awesome' the setup is once you're using an exploit, there's no way to do it without purchasing swap magic and a ps1 game.

no, you must have at least 1 PS1 game, reffered as trigger disc, it is because only PS1 loader in the PS2 can be bypassed.

Like WildSnake said, all you need is the ps1 game to "trigger" the HD.

Getting access to the chipped PS2 is the hard part, though. Haven't found any friends who have them, yet.

it can be done with swap magic either, just make sure you have enough empty space on MC
