My DVD combo drive only plays chinese dvd's

I just came back from mainland china and got a new combo dvd drive. the only problem is that now it can only play bootleg chinese dvd's. all my north american orignal dvd's don't work and program cd's like windows, or anything like that don't work either. It also doesnt burn north american cd's either. I don't know what to do. Maybe I need to install Aspi driver or something? can someone help thanks

1. What combo dvd drive is it? model?

2. Try to upgrade the firmware

3. You can easyly check the model/type with Everest Home editon -> http://www.lavalys.hu/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en

You bought a DVD drive in china, for use by chinese people, to watch chinese DVDs, in china, and you are wondering why it's not working right in a different country with different DVDs...

Perhaps you could try changing the region code or making it region free.

the difference is what colw said... and as he says, unlock the DVD drive so that it can read discs from other parts of the world and you will be able to watch discs from other parts of the world on the DVD drive...
