Laptop to TV via S-Vid

I have an IBM T42 connected to my TV via a S-Vid cable. The TV displays the Laptop screen but in B/W. Also the quality is very poor. I have tried various resolution options but it has no effect.

Perhaps you should check your Pal/NTSC settings.

I checked that...and quite right the TV is from the UK and generally speaking would have been PAL...but can be either. The laptop only seems to be NTSC. I have the TV on auto...no change.
