Hello all. Second post here. I just purchased an Epson R200 from newegg.com (great deal, came with a free 50 pack of Verbatim 16X DVD+R printables cost= $100-$20 Epson rebate = $80 shipped). Anyway, I have a new 50 pack spindle of Verb shiny silver 8X DVD-R that claims to be "excellent for silk screening". A couple of questions:

1) Can I print on these shiny silver verbs with the R200?

2) Is the software that comes with the R200 good enough that I can import jpegs from cdcovers.cc and print away? What software would you recommend?

3) Where is the best place to get ink for the R200?

4) What is the best printable DVD media? TY? Sources?

5) I have a lot of DVDs that I put adhesive labels on. Many people say this is a bad thing. I've never had a problem. I'm wondering if I should re-rip them and back them up?

TIA

Sean

madonut,

1)The media must be inkjet printable. You can buy these in white or silver. Regular shiny silver media is not printable. Give me the link to the deal you got so I can tell if the media is inkjet printable.

2)The software that comes with your printer is all you need.

3)Good ink best price. http://private.abacus24-7.com/home.aspx?

4)I prefer verbatum datalifeplus DVD+R hub printables but TY's and maxell's are good too. Supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com, newegg.com, amazon.com.

5)I would.

Thanks for the reply Mort. I don't think these are ink jet printable:

The claim that they were good for silk screening is a different ball game I suppose.

mandonut,

Those are not inkjet printable but is still good media.

david20,

Meritline ink is not as good as the ink abacus sales and meritline ink costs more.

When you buy more ink I recommend buying a complete set and 1 extra black and 1 extra yellow. The black and yellow gets used up 1st. Abacus will not charge anymore shipping for the extra 2 cartridges. I think the shipping is $4.95. The complete set of 6 cartridges is $16.85 and IMO are as good as genuine epson cartridges.

The ink from private abacus is excellent. That's where I'll buy all my r-200 ink cartridges from now on.

Don't do what I did and order the wrong ink cartridges from abacus. Abacus has the ink cartridges for the r-200 Stylus photo and r-200 Stylus inkjet.2 different types of cartridges. I first ordered the stylus inkjet, which only had 3 different colors, DOH!

Abacus was happy to take them back and replaced them with the correct Stylus photos cartridges. Excellent customer service.

I've been using the plus format of Verbatim data life plus +8x:MCC-003, and the hitach made Maxell-002-00: +8x maxells, in the full hub printable. Very good media.

Re-ripping backups with the paper-sticker type labels may be a little trickier.Stand alone players may be ok playing them. PC DVD-RW drives may have a harder time ripping them.Try DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read and MODE ISO write for the re-ripping.There may be a few of them that you'll have to peel the labels off. Goo Gone is said to work very well for that chore.

mandonut, Good luck with your r-200. Mine has been thrown around like a rag doll by my still- soon to be ex-wife.It still prints like a charm.
