Hi,
I know this might seem like a stupid question but I'm new to this. I just wanted to know which is the best media to use for burning .ISO files and VOB files for play in stand alone dvd players or consoles. Is DVD-R's better to use for this application or is DVD+R's? Or, Is there even a big difference?
Also, I wanted to know if Xvid files can be converted to be playable in stand alone DVD players? Thank-you! Much appreciated.

I can't help ya with the XviD-you should be able to. I can on the plus/dash format. Why not skip both formats and booktype the plus format to dvd-rom?

It's #12 on bbmayo's newbies guide link on his sig.
This booktyping helps on standalones being able to recognize you backup discs.

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

The most critical aspect of media,make sure you use quality media.It can save you many issues later.Mainly standalone playability.Avoid the crappy media! It's not worth all the headaches.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, best media are genuine Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R (including the Fuji & Sony 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan"), Verbatim 8X DVD+R (MCC003), and the Maxell 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan". I'll take any DVD+R over any DVD-R anyday and anytime. Why..? Because DVD+R performs better, not only that, but you can easily change the "book type" or "bitsetting" on a DVD+R to a DVD-ROM format -- this format will play in all functional dvd players (even if it's 2 or 3 years old stand alone dvd players).

@jjmt99,

This might solve your problem and it may be the answer to what you're looking for. Go here http://download2.vso-software.fr/vsoDivxToDVD_free_setup.exe and download it, then save it to a folder and run it. It will convert any AVI, DivX, XviD files to DVD.
