If you have never soldered before, then yes, it will be difficult installing your modchip for the first time. It took me many hours of practice before I finally did a ps2 chip install. Some ps2 versions are easier to solder than others. The way I look at it is the newer the version, the easier it is to solder. v1-3 are very difficult, v4's get easier, v5-11's are simple (if you have some experience) v12's are easy, but you need to install the laser fix 100% correctly or you're laser is gonna start cookin, and finally the v13 ps2's, which are very easy to do.
So, just get some practice in, and then you'll be fine.

Nope, the v13's look exactly like the v12's. An easy way to tell them apart is by looking on the backside of the ps2. On v13's, there is no phone cable port, there is just an ethernet port. V12's have both ports. And then more technically on the v13 boards you will see the points are different where the laser fix board goes in a v12.

Well, if I hit it hard enough I'm sure I could break that sucker in half :-) I'm only jokin... Yes, they fixed the overheating issue w/ v13 pstwo's, because even some unmodded v12's had lasers burning out in them.
I'll show you two pics of the v12 and v13 motherboards w/ chips installed.
Here is a V12, notice that it has the subzero fix installed:
Here is a V13, notice how the points are different where the laser fix is installed on v12's:

They may give you a v13, but I cannot guarantee they will. The chances of swap magic ruining your laser are slim, but it does wear them down because of all of the swapping going on.
If your laser has not burnt out by now w/ your Matrix Infinity in your v12, then I would say your good to go. Most of the time the laser burns out w/in 1 min. to 2 hours of usage after the initial chip install.

Yup, Sanyo is a huge company, and they make a ton of stuff! It's just like for the Xbox, Philips, Samsung and Hitachi manufacture drives for them, and they make tons of other things as well.
Oh for sure, the prices will come down on parts and things of that nature, but I really don't think they will drop to much however.
