When you guys encounter the above audio phenomenon on DVDs [star wars movies, alien 3, etc] how can you be sure that the movie burns the background audio/sfx/dialogue and not JUST the audio commentary.
Everytime I burn a movie that uses THX, the movie plays fine, but I seem to have the producer/director commentary throughout the movie, rather than the actual movie sounds/music/efx.
Yes, I have burned the audio several different ways, several different times to test, and yes I turned the audio commentary off in the menus on the DVD.
AGAIN, this only seems to occur when trying to backup DVDs that have utilized the audio services of LucasFilm THX Sound.
Usually I use DVD Decrypter and Clone DVD or DVD Shrink.
Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?!?!

On one of my attempts I actually took everything out [extras, menus, etc] besides the actual movie, which of course shows up as the longest stretch of time in CloneDVD and Shrink.
Actually, if I recall, there were two different sets of the full movie.....but being that the Alien 3 DVD has a theatrical version and a Director's Cut version I just figured that this was why there were two sets.
Other ideas?
Can someone else actually attempt it themselves and check out the results?

Are you just keeping the 5.1 sound and not selecting the 2 channel? Usually by keeping the 2 channel you will get the DC running through the movie. Some standalone players will default to the 2 channel and play the DC.

Actually I've been removing the 5.1, bc I didn't think I needed it, especially since I still have a 2 channel JVC receiver from even before surround sound came out that I use as my 'generic' surround sound.
I've chosen to to use only 2 channels......could that be the downfall?
Should I leave the 5.1 and 2 selections in place and just hope for the best when all is compressed?

Yes, that is the problem you should remove 2 channel and keep 5.1 unless 2 channel is your only option. DC is always 2 channel. Keeping 5.1 will work, because your player will Demux to 2 channel and play. Try it out you will see you should not have this problem anymore.

I am 100% sure that is your problem. I had the exact same expereince what I first started to back up my movies. I removed the 5.1 and kept on the 2 channel and had the same results with only the DC audio. Also some DVD players to default to the 2 channel audio so try changing the audio selection while playing the movie, as I also had that problem!
