The whole point of the fliptop is to use with the Swap Magic. You can get both in a pack for cheaper from www.thegiantstore.com I got mine from there and everything went smooth.

All consoles have a region lock on them preventing them playing games released in other territories [USA, EU, JP] so for example a US PS2 couldn't play a EU or JP game.

The other problem is the video standards of different parts of the world. US and JP are NTSC while EU is PAL. This is a problem because you need the right kind of TV.

A backup is a copy of an original game from any region. These are disabled from running by the firmware in all consoles.

Your game may or may not work. Assuming the Swap Magic 3.6 boots the game you still have the PAL issue to deal with as US TVs are only NTSC. You can set the Swap Magic to boot the game in NTSC mode and it might work [I recently tried this with the EU game Farenheit and it kept the screen from rolling but screwed up the screen resolution] Also, even if it kind of works many EU games nowadays have a NTSC 60hz option [like Farenheit] so that you can set it in game and then you're good to go.

being from a PAL region (UK) i have a few import titles and swapmagic runs them fine. luckilly my tv supports ntsc so i am a happy man. being as you are in an ntsc region you should have no problems as PAL has a slower screen refreh rate so the game will be a little slower on the eye. i think that is the only problem you will have. i would only get a flip top if youhave a slimline as the slide card is ace. i have had no trouble with mine and its really EASY to take off the front plate on the cd tray. oh yes make sure it is the ntsc region swap magic or it wont load up on your ps2.

You can find a host of PAL2NTSC patches here: http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_patches.shtml I don't think they have F1 05, but it's a good place to start looking, good luck.
