I'd stay away from cheap media, it kills your ps2's laser....
Just get yourself a spindle of Verbatim or Tayo Yuden DVD-R.
I even remember tesco from my travels throught the UK and Eire...
That media must be the cheapest of the cheap...

Obviously there not as good as Verbatim, TDK, Philips and the other high class media but in my opinion they are very good, all my backups have worked w/o any probs & that is the important thing, some people just have better luck with certain media than others.

really, it kills your laser? i just thought that the whole thing with the media was that it would not play the backups.

Cheap media wears down your laser faster than good quality media.
It's not like you put it in and *POOF* it's dead, but you will notice over time that it will wear down faster and faster.

ok, i learned something new. obviously it does not ruin your laser right away, i've been using a 50 pack of Value Disc dvd-r's recently til i found a site with verbatims at a good price. just bought a 100 pack of verbatims about so i'm set.
