In DVD decryptor you can have it automatically ignore read errors with the following...

In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This is an excellent setting for dealing with scratched discs which may cause ripping problems.

And this is a great setting because you don't have to click ignore in the abort/retry/ignore nag message. However, it retries about 23 times before it decides that it is a read error. Is there a way to change the 23 to say 10?

Thanks inadvance

Go to your Tools tab, settings and the I/O tab you will see the retry settings in the lower right hand corner you can set them to the amount you want.

The disk has a crc error caused by a bad scratch. I'm trying to use dvd decryptor to back it up. I used the above settings to try to copy the files. When it gets to the file that overlaps the bad sratch there are the crc errors. I think that if you play it in the dvd you might have momentary flickers at this point. The decryptor encounters many errors and it was set to aiutomatically ignore after 3 attempts. Then I used dvd-shrink to read those backed up files (on the hd) and I got a different error "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming Error - exception occured. The parameter is incorrect."

Any other suggestions to back up this disk? I realise I cannot fix the messed up frames. But at least have files that are copyable without crc errors?

if your disk is badly scratched you may not be able to get through it. Usually you will find the parameter is incorrect error on a file that was ripped in iso mode with Shrink. You can try cleaning it as best you can, some have used toothpaste mixed with water. I have used a spritz of Pledge on the disk and polished it really good with a soft cloth. Your best bet is to just take it back and get another original if you can.

It's a backup that was made with shrink that has developed a scratch and the original has been lost.... I'll try the pledge...
So you're saying that I cannot "ignore" the errors and somehow substitute the corrupt frames or repair as best as possible?

You may be able to try looking for a program like DVD Rescue or ISO Buster.

I d/l'd iso buster. It asked me to ignore bad sectors, replace with zero's or replace with dummy sectors. I replaced the sectors with 'dummy' sectors. I guess that'll be blank frames?

It creates an ISO file. Is there a way to watch it before burning too see?

If you got DVD Shrink, you can use open disk image and see if it comes up and preview there.

I used ISO buster to replace the sectors with dummy sectors. I then extracted the VIDEO_TS folder from the new ISO. When I pointed dvd shrink to the new folder to perform the analysis it "performed an illegal operation..." and shut down immediatly at the same point.

Any other ideas?

thanks!
