I've been burning dvd's for about a year and have a process which works well

I use a

Sony dru-700a dual layer dvd burner (updated firmware)
Dvd shrink and decrypter
Use BENQ and in the last 2mths verbatim blank dvd's
record in 4x

in every 12-20 burns of backing up dvd movies i run into a prob with a short thin blue lines going down only the left side of the tv screen when watching movie of a disc that hasn't worked probally?? i seen it more regularly on cartoons (disney) that i record for the kids - most recent is emperors new groove, barbie movie, the blue lines appears throughout the whole movie occurring very quickly and then disappearing, and reoccurring again a short time or fame later.

Has this happened to anyone-? However when i do another burn using the same iso.file the copy works fine without the blue lines??

now here is a real strange bit - I have original dvd's brought that now display these blue lines down the left hand side?????they where not there when we brought the dvd new last year (i've lost count of how many time i've seen Nemo) I playd these dvd'd in another dvd player and get the same result

can someone tell whats going on? THANKS!!!!!!

It sounds like a problem with the player or TV itself. Are both players you tried the same make and model?? Purchased dvds are pressed from a master copy and not burned. Playback problems with originals are usually dirt or damage on the bottom. Recently we have seen some bad pressing but they usually will play fine in most players. If the problem was only on the burned copies I would say maybe your burner was going bad, but thats not the case. Maybe try a few more players if possible.

hmm this is a real puzzle - have you ever burnt a dvd and got blue lines on one side of the screen!!!!

when i backup other dvd's that have these blue lines when i have copied them from a original disk i can redo them using the same iso file and they work fine the 2nd time around????

the original dvd disks that are now showing blue lines i brought for the kids last year and have not ever backed them up, i dont know why they are showing blue lines now - i have tried them on another dvd/tv different brands and get the same result ????

If my burner was on its way out wouldn't all my burnt disks have this kind of error ?????

If the orginals disks where because of bad pressing wouldnt the disk show errors right from when i brought the dvd movie from the shop. They where fine last year but i have just noticed these line recently in the last few mths on a original disk????

thanks for any more advice jerry

Stand alone dvd players are more forgiving on playback of slightly damaged or badly pressed originals. So the defects may not show up on playback. Trying to rip those same slightly defective originals to make a backup will usually show up as CRC errors and possibly bad playback on the burned copy.

I have never encountered a blue line as you are seeing in playback. The fact that it is intermitten will make it harder to pinpoint the problem. Since you are seeing it on the originals I still lean towards equipment problems. Possibly a loose connection or bad wire somewhere between the player and TV. Look for a common point between the playback of the players as in brand and model. I'm sorry to say that these are just guesses since I never ran into that playback problem but I keep thinking about the originals giving you the line which looks like equipment or connection problems.
