Some TYs and Verbs not playing on JVC Player

I have a JVC XV-S60 DVD player, and it seems to not play the occasional DVD that I burn. I am using genuine TYs and Verbs (DVD+Rs), burning at 4x, and booktyping to DVD-ROM, not multi tasking at all during burning or anyphase for that matter, using an LG 4163B. It has also happened with one Memorex DVD-R (I have only burned about 11 movies so far).

I have another JVC player maybe a year newer, and it eats anything I throw at it, along with my sisters Toshiba, yet the JVC that won't play some of the DVDs was a lot more expensive than the others (mind you I bought it a year or so before the others).

Is it just a picky player? I can't see anything that I am doing wrong.

 The older a player is, the more picky they seem to be .. The new cheap players seem to play more DVDs than expensive older ones ... I have an expensive Sony that I bought in 1998 and it has a hard time with burned discs .. But the new Cyberhome $20 special that I bought my granddaughters (less than a year ago) plays everything ...

So is it normal for a player to play SOME discs, but not all? I am using only one brand of disc (TY), all from the same spindle, all using Nero Express to burn, all at 4x, and some play perfecty fine, and some don't.

Normal?
