I posted this message a while ago but got no reply. The original post goes:
I have a ps2 ver 10. It has a matrix infinity chip. I've owned it approximately 16 months and use it very rarely. Yesterday I played a game of ncaa 2005 football and fifa 2005. All was fine. Today I tried to play a game and it will not load the disk. When I look in the browser it says that it is reading disk, but nothing actually loads. Does anyone know what it could be? It happened out of the blue, no warning. Tried copied disks, original disks and even a dvd. Nothing. It sounds like it is trying to load, but it just doesn't. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

After posting that message, a friend of mine says it might be the laser azimuth is off and needs adjustment. And my laser is probably going. If my laser is going, should I try to go the HD loader route? In other words, if I can get the laser to work again, HD loader will let me load all the games and never have to worry about the laser. Right?
One more question, I think I remember reading one time that you can get the games to load with the memory chip and bypass the laser all together. Is that true and does anyone know how you do that? Remember I'm a newbie, I just bought a pre-modded system. So I'm not very educated on all this.

It could be the laser. You can try adjusting it or cleaning
it. If that doesn't work then you will have to take it and
get it fixed. As far as the Hard Drive. Yes that is another
option, and i am not sure if you need a working laser for that or not. you may be able to transfer the games to your PC via a
DVD Writer, and then install the hard drive in the PC and transfer
the ISO file to it. Then put it in the PS2.

I have never heard of bypassing the laser with a memory card
