sup all got a quick question, i know this is a old movie but it is a classic, on the dvd sleepers there is a side a and a side b, what i did is that i burned side a to a folder, burned side b to a folder, then i burned them both to a folder, re-autored it with Shrink and burned with nero. When i play the movie at the end i get a black screen ? then it goes to the second part of the movie ? why the black screen :)

Details Details Details give me pictures and details =D

With double-sided DVDs and 2-disc editions with the movie split onto each disc, there is no way to avoid it. I reauthored Pearl Harbor just the other day to fit on one DVD and it did the same thing.

@joebaxter, there is a way to avoid it using DVD2One. Yes, another program, but I like the joining feature...it can be seamless or non-seamless. I use this all the time and never have an issue with the black screen. I moves right on to the next side. If I use non-seamless then there will be a pause and black screen. I'm not sure how much this costs now, but I use this a lot with dual sided disks or episodic dvds. Just some information for future use.

@Moviedud - that's something i hadn't realised DVD2One could be used for. all i've ever used it for is joining together 2 or more movies (ie when i've converted AVI's into dvd format and the resulting dvd files are not very large). nice one.

How do I put 2 or more DVD's to 1 DVD-R?
How do I convert a double sided (meaning you have to take the disc out and flip it over to watch the rest) to a single sided DVD-R?
How do I take 2 different DVD's (2 different movies) & create 1 DVD out of them?

NOTE: There are a million different ways you could do this, this way is just 1 to get you started. Explore the options you could do, it will amaze you of the endless possibilities. By no means, am I suggesting that you follow this tutorial for every 2 disc DVD set or 2 separate DVD you wish to fit on 1 DVD-R! Every movie is going to be different.

2 DVD's to 1 DVD-R

ALTERNATE METHOD

*** DUE TO NEW COPYRIGHT PROTECTION, DVD Shrink CANNOT HANDLE/OPEN NEWER DVD TITLES (THE GRUDE, FORGOTTEN, ETC.), MEANING YOU FIRST HAVE TO RIP THE DVD WITH DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 . IF THAT IS THE CASE, YOU WOULD CLICK THE "OPEN FILES" BUTTON, NOT THE "OPEN DISC" BUTTON. (IF YOU RIPPED TO A ".ISO" FILE WITH DVD Decrypter, YOU WOULD NEED TO HIT CTRL+I TO OPEN THE .ISO IMAGE WITH DVD Shrink. BASICALLY, WHEN I SAY "INSERT THE DISC", THAT WOULD ALSO MEAN "OPEN FILES" OR "OPEN DISC IMAGE/CTRL+I". THIS GUIDE WAS INTENDED AND ILLUSTRATED FOR "FILE" MODE IN DVD Decrypter, NOT "ISO" MODE.***

( *** = ALTERNATE METHOD )

Open up DVD Shrink. Insert the first disc (***). Let it do a quick analysis. After the quick analysis is done. Go ahead and deselect all of the stuff you don't want (Foreign languages, certain extra titles, etc.).

Click the "Backup!" button. (Proceed as you normally would when backing up a DVD,)

After it gets done encoding the 1st disc, and DVD Shrink is through. Go ahead and insert the second disc(***). Do the same thing as you did for disc 1.

Click the "Backup!" button. (Proceed as you normally would when backing up a DVD)

After successfully backing up both disc 1 and disc 2. Go ahead and start up DVD Shrink again. This time click the "Re-author" button. Screen Shot Below:

On the right side of the "Re-authored DVD" screen, there will be two tabs. "Compression Settings" & "DVD Browser". Screen Shot Below:

On the "DVD Browser" screen, click the down arrow at the end of the directory box, and navigate to where ever you saved the file or files that DVD Shrink created for you on the first disc. Screen Shot Below:

Drag them over to the "Re-authored DVD" section, located on the left hand side of the main DVD Shrink screen.

After adding all the titles that you want from disc 1. Go ahead and click the "DVD Browser", then navigate to where ever you saved the file or files that DVD Shrink created for you on the second disc.

After that, drag the files from disc 2 under the file you dragged from disc 1.

After you have dragged all the "titles" you want on the "Re-authored" DVD. Go ahead and click the "Compression Settings" tab. Here you will be able to see how much compression if any, is going to be needed for the "titles" all to fit on 1 DVD-R. When you are satisfied with the compression rate, go ahead and click the "Backup!" button.

As most of you know, the movie "Pearl Harbor" is on 2 separate disc's. I used that movie to accomplish this tutorial. Keep in mind, when adding the different titles, your DVD player will play them just like that. As different titles. When it gets done playing the first title, there will be a slight pause, just like a layer break, when it will switch to the second title and so fourth.

@joebaxter, jmet gave the answer for shrink...for using DVD2One...simply decrypt both sides to HD, then opne DVD2One. Find the first file on HD, Set the location as Dual Layer or single layer (Depending on the amount of the files.) Then select the join feature in the box that has Full Disk, Movie Only...select join then walk through the next few screens, you will come to the final screen that will ask you to select the next file (should be disk 2 or side 2) then walk through the same steps and when you come to the final screen again, select seamless joining or non-seamless (I select seamless for most two sided disks...works great) once that has been completed just hit start. Remember that if you do this correctly when you do the second disk (or file) the audio and subtitle options will already be taken care for you by DVD2One. There is aguide at doom9 that includes the joining feature. I'll find it and get back to you, just incase you run into any problems...This is quite simple and fun to use. I'll help if you need anything. Good luck my friend.
