OK, I'm very new to all of this...i just recently learned to copy DVD's using DvD Decrypter, Shrink and Nero. Now i'm working with my new camcorder. Using the software DVC Media 5.1 (Came with camera) I was able to stream the Tape onto my hard drive. I can watch it, edit it and all that. It is saved in Windows Media player automatically using DVC Media, yet when i tried to burn it to a DVD also using Windows Media it didn't work...i can open the DVD Disc on my computer and see the file..but it won't play in PC or DVD Home Player. Everything I have read(and the little i understand) talks about DVD-R...my PC is only compatiable with DVD+R...is that a problem? How do i get these files to burn to a DVD? Is there additional software i need? I hope i supplied all the information you need to help me, and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance.
i dont think it really matters if your burning +r or -r media
but it sounds like you did not create dvd compliant files
if your dvc media program does not provide this output format (check your options) you might need a different tool for converting your captured/edited material to mpeg-2(dvd format)
Thanks guys for responding, but to be honest i don't have a clue what your talking about. i think it saves it as a mpeg. after it saves it in the folder i created on my desktop it only opens in windows media player. from there i tried several times to burn it. but it won't work. what am i doing wrong???

these files and this structure should normally be generated when you convert you camcorder material to dvd material via certain software like e.g. pinnacle studio, ulead video studio etc
i'm not familiar with the software you were talking about so you must make sure if that software of yours is able to edit AND save/convert your material to proper dvd material
it should state something like dvd or mpeg-2 as output format
OKay, from what i can tell when i click on save it brings up another window, i save it to the folder on my desktop i created and it saves it as a asf (file type)...the video codec; ISO MPEG4 Video V1.
Is that what you need to know? I know very little about this software myself, like i said i'm extremlly new this. if there is a better software that i could use thats compatiable with my camcorder please advise me of that too. my cam is a Samsung miniDV Digital cam.
OK....You should Not Be Saveing your Files as ASF files or WMV Files (I hope you are not useing Windows Movie Maker??)...
Your DV Camcorder Records Video in DV AVI format the Files should be in AVI format after Captureing them to Your Hard Drive..(If the Files are being saved as ASF or WMV files then you should not being useing that Software because this Format is Extremely Lossy which means that when you save your Files in this Format you Loose a Great deal of the Video Quality and make them Harder to convert to DVD)
If I were you I would use a Simple Capture Program Like "WinDV" or "DVIO" to Transfer the DV AVI files to your PC"s Hard Drive and then use a Good Quality Mpeg encoder Like "Tmpgenc" to convert the DV AVI files to Mpeg-2/DVD Format and then use a Good DVD authoring program Like DVDLab to add your Menu"s and Chapters and to Burn the DVD....
If you have to do any Editing then you should do it with a proper Editing program and Not with anything that saves your Files in ASF/WMV format...I suggest something like "Sony Vegas Video 6" or if you want something really Cheap then try "MagiX Video Edit Pro v10.0" which is less than $50 and it is all you need to capture and encode to Mpeg-2 and to Add your Menu"s abd Chapters and to Burn the DVD and the Quality will be Far superior than what you are getting now....
