I made a backup of my burnout revenge but it pauses/laggs when i am racing (usually right before something big happens in a race-like a crash). this happens in standard single player. I have made other backups without a problem. I burned the game at 4x with alcohol 120% on a +R dvd. Also i am using swap magic 3 plus version 3.6. Does anyone have any suggestions?

try some -R media instead
I have had problems with +R media like that.
8X speed DVD-R
some people i am sure do use +R and will disagree
but the majority of people here, no matter what brand they
use and using -R

I'd try using DVD Decrypter and Nero,
That's how I burned my copy of burnout revenge and it loads as good as the original, and yes i have played for extended periods.
Alternately if you don't have Nero i'd try a straight DVD Decrypter iso read iso write, that should work.

never burn at 8X OR 4X speed! thats why it's skipping, i had that problem with one of my games i reburned the game at 1x and it worked well, i would suguest you do the same.

I don't know why you said this. I regularly burn at 4x or above and have backed up over 100 games this way with no problems of skipping etc... they play flawlessly!!
It all depends on your computer specs and what version ps2 you have etc as to what you can get away with burning at. As a rule I would use 4x as most version ps2's should be able to cope with that. The only reason I could think of to burn at 1x or 2x would be if you have an older dvd burner.
It's a bit weird to wait all the time it would take for a 1x burn when a 4x or higher results in the same quality burn... but that's your choice and if it works for you then good.

@curtis - go with steimy's recommendation, he knows what he's talking about... also when you burn remember to turn off all the other programs that are running in the background, disable your internet connection too... the last thing you want is for something to interfere with the burn process. Also, I don't really know about alchohol 120... might get a better burn with DVD Decrypter or Nero.
personally I use decrypter to make the iso and Nero to burn it... never have any problems.

hope that helps

i dont useally have to wait a long time for it to complete when i burn at 1x speed. so its ok, and my burner does not take a lot of cpu either when burning. it's a good idea to burn at low speeds beaause games like god of war is a good exsample of this. this game can only burned a 1x speed or it wont play.

Really????

I burned mine at 8x and it played throughout... only had one glitch, when in a transition loading screen during cliffs of madness it hung for about 3 mins then played fine after that.

I'm with paddymail,
i burn a lot of games at 4X and they worked just fine
including God Of War
Now when i first started out i always set DVD Decrypter to
1X, but that doesn't mean you burned it at 1X
With my 8X speed DVD's, which is what i always use, it will
burn them at 3.8X. So i just started setting it to 4X and
everything worked out great. I would not burn 4X speed DVD's
at 4X though, i would do them at 2X
But i never buy them myself.

rebuild the ISO before you burn and check for dummy files. and it's best to use DVD -R media in future burning at 1X speed only. or you will get mad loading times with your game.

Just to make it known, it freezes, but it does unfreeze and start playing again in a few seconds to a minute. also, i never did understand what dummy files were. I have rebuilt many games and i have never come across "dummy files"

for burnout maybe it's because the dvd you use. My friend was using DVD-R maximum burn speed 2x and it didn't work, I burned on 8x DVD-R and it work fine ( DVD+R dont work well ). Also, It's right that you have to burn slower, like 4x ( all games works at 4x ) and for CDs I dunno, never tested, I burned ICO but didn't try! ( I have lots of game to finish before lol )
