Hi People For the past several months I've been having very little problem with downloading backup nmovies with "DVD Shrink". The past three weeks, I am repeatedly getting "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue - Programming error - Exception Occured - The Handle is invalid". I got this once in a while prior, but it's with about every other Backup now? The movies are in the 1999 - 2004 range and I am using only DVD Shrink. I have 32 gigs of storage and plenty of memory. Is it the particular movies that I am encountering or has something infiltrated my system from the download attempts? I have absolutely no luck using "Decrypter" and the decrypters for purchase crash my computer..... Any suggestions Ron

Problem:
There is a video in VIDEO_TS.VOB where a kid jumps in the air, played over and over. DVD Shrink cannot handle this video.
Problematic movies: The Punisher, The Pianist, Bourne Supremacy, Taken, The Shape of Things, Scarface special edition, Six Feet Under (solution # 6).

Main Solution 1:
Use the latest version of DVD43Free and you don't need to use DVD Decrypter first to RIP the files to your hard disk - just have DVD43Free running in the background and you can use DVD Shrink directly from the original source DVD - thus saving you valuable time. DVD43Free only works on Win2K and WinXP.
Main Solution 2:
This is the best solution.
Use DVD Decrypter. Make sure you use the latest version 3.5.4.0. After the files are placed on your hard disk - just open up the files with DVD Shrink and forget about the other solutions in this thread.
Solution Easy:
First you have to decide if you want to retain the menus on the DVD. If you don't want them just enter re-author mode in DVD Shrink and do a movie-only backup.
If you want to retain the menus on the DVD you have to open up the files in DVD Shrink and apply "No compression" or "Still Image" to the "unreferenced material".
Solution Advanced:
The easy solution above can still leave a fair sized chunk of MB on the disk which could be used for the movie.
The solution is to blank out ALL unreferenced material entirely. Here is a guide on how to get rid of that pesky "jumping boy".
Other solutions than the above 1 and 2:

Solution 7:
Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").
Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO".
Choose "Full Disk" or Re-author
Press "Backup"
Under the "Target Device Tab" select "Hard Disk Folder" in the first drop down menu. Make sure that the "Create VIDEO_TS subfolders" is checked.
Make sure that the target folder (directory) is an empty one.
Go to the "Quality Settings" tab and make sure the "Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation" is checked.
When this step is finished. Make an ISO from the folders in the directory.

I was having problems with backing up Red Dragon. I was getting that DVD Shrink error - error exception. I followed instructions, changing unrefferenced material setting from automatic to no compression. I still saw the man running and jumping but was able to back up the DVD. Thanks
