Hi,

I have backed up most of my collection on MCC verbatim, but when i left for college i left my verbs and bought some Sony DVD-R (from Circuit City), media code Sony08d1. They burn flawlessly and play on my cheap standalone in my dorm, but not in my PS2. Why would this be??? Last I checked, Sony makes the PS2, so hopefully it should play Sony media. I have burnt at 4x like I always do, and even my old Memorex dvd+r (moser baer) play in the Ps2. Is anyone else having this problem?? Any solutions??

Thanks in advance.

You said the +R Memorex worked fine but the -R Sony didn't ... Were the Verbatim discs +R or -R .. Maybe the PS2 won't play the -R discs ...

I have found that my ps2 will play most +r disk if I book type them to dvd-rom. The -r disk work most of the time, but the +r disks ALWAYS work. You might want to try that, and see how it goes.

thanks for the response, but i mean, the disks are made by SONY. Why wouldnt the ps2 read them? They all burnt flawlessly at 4x just like my old memorex +R and my favorite Verb -R.

Well, I have a v4 ps2, and for some reason it has a hard time readin -r disks. Always been like that with about 4 different brands of media that I have used. I don't think it really matters if it's a Sony brand disk or not, it's the fact that it's a DVD-R. Sometimes they boot up first shot, other times it takes 2-4 tries before the game boots. Other times it doesn't work at all. The original ps2 games a in dvd-rom format, and that is what the ps2 reads easily. When you book type a +r disk to dvd-rom, the ps2 will read the disk in the format it was designed to read. That makes it recognise the disk in 100% of the times I have tried it. I backup all of my ps2 games on +r disks now as I have not has a problem since I switched from -r disks.

Sony dash 1x-8x:

This media is produced by both Japan and Taiwan using the same exact SONY08D1 MID code. Sony also did this on their dash 1x-4x speed media,so the quality was drastic between taiwan and austria using the exact same SONY04D1 MID code. I've burned the Japanese 08D1's,but not the taiwanese.

Look at the yellow sony label for country of origin and let us know where they were made at.

Ps2's are very picky.A buddy of mine can't get his backup games and movies with the dash format to be recognized.

My stepsons ps2 would play MCC-002 verbatim +4x,but not Ricohjpn-r01 verbatim +4x. Very odd.Just a slight difference between manufactures. Some players can pick up those differences and can be quite difficult.

I also booktype my backups to dvd-rom and have 5 or so ps2s that play them perfect. My dash backups from my benq did not fair as well.

That should be the better between the 2 countries.

I play my backups on quite a few different stand alones and ps2 game consoles and those ps2's are the hardest to figure out when it comes to recognizing backups.I even found 1 that wouldn't even play either dvd-rom booktyped or my dash benq backups!

What's your burner's brand name and model#?

You've got good media and a good burner, sounds like something with those sony dash discs that your sony player does not like.

That's why I've gotten away from dash format and booktype my plus format for a higher compatability rate on those ps2s and stand alones.

I am new to this coping ps2 games and I can see that the members of this forum are very helpful, even with some agavating questions.
1)To some what I have read using DVD Decrypter is good.
mode>iso>read then write.
2)when in doubt use dvd+r
3)burn at the slowest speed for best results

What i am not sure about is do i need swap magic installed on the ps2
to read the newly copied dvd. ( mine dont work not reconized)
what is SWAP MAGIC
I can copy protected movie disk no problem.

iF i need it WHY IF THE COPY IS EXACT WITH THE ORIGINAL.

I don't understand what it means by book type... I see a bunch of different options in DVD Decrypter, but I don't know what to choose, and I cannot change any of the settings

You need to determine if your DVD writer is able to booktype first

Go to the following link, it will explain booktyping and show you how to accomplish booktyping with DVD Decrypter

I hope that this will be of some help to you ...

@ rlabat, swap magic is a disc that allows the PS2 to boot a burned game. You insert the swap magic disc, then put in the burnt disc, and the game now loads. You have to have this or a mod chip, otherwise you will never get a burnt PS2 game to play.

I was having problems with my Sony's as well. 50% of backups worked. Switched over to TY's and have yet to make a single coaster, except for my expeditions into burning land that was unknown to me before.

You would think Sony media would work well with Sony products, but they weren't 100% compatible with my Sony DVD burner, and had lots of problems with the PS2 as well.

Try some Taiyo Yudens out, you will not be disappointed.

im kinda having the same problem..

i have a v4 ps2. i'm burning taiyo yuden media at 2x and my ps2 wont recognize anything. i think it may be the burner or something iono. its the same as this guy , a pioneer dvr k15 slimline. i want to burn star ocean but it doesnt work. i tried burning onimusha 1 that i already have a backup of, and it didnt work either. ive made about 5 coasters with the ty's and i dont know what to do @_@...its weird cuz its a brand new burner and everything... i tried using dvd decryptor also and that didnt work either. i use Alcohol 120% all the time, but maybe there's some weird setting i dont know how to use. and my ty's are real - made in japan and everything so i know thats not the issue. could it be firmware or something to do with the burner or settings ??? im not sure...please help!!
