I can't seem to get my dvd copies to stop freezing during playback. I am currently using Ridata 4x and Ridata 2.4x dvd+r. I also have fujifilm dvd+r 8x and still same problems. I have also used maxell, memorex, and teon brands also. Some work but most don't. They trick me to because some will play 60% and then start freezing. Just when I think everything is ok. It's frustrating because I just want to copy them so my kids won't ruin my origins and now it seems I'm spending more time and money trying to back them up rather than just buying a new movie if origin gets lost or damaged. Man I could just scream.... I have read around the forum but really no help... please help :)

This is a Very Common Problem and it is Generally Caused from Burn errors as DVD Players are very Sensitive to Burn errors.....

I suggest you try Burning your DVD"s at the Lowest Speed Possible (2X) and see if that helps because with me I have been useing these Really Cheapo 4x Sony OEM DVD-R disks that I got for about 0.25c each and if I burn the Disks at 4X speed the Movie will Start Freezeing at about Half way through the Movie but If I burn the Same Movie to the same disks at 2X speed the DVD Plays perfectly from beginning to end.....

Also there are some Media and even some Burnersthat are Notoriously bad when it comes to Burn errors...
Maxell and Memorex are Bad disks and so are Princo but Ritex and Fuji are usually pretty Good...Some Burners that I have heard have problems are Lite-On, NEC, BenQ ,Some LG Models you should also Upgrade your Burners Firmware to the latest version for More reliable Burns and better compatibility....

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am using a lite-on burner. I will try to update and let you know. Heck, I've tried slowing down and speeding up while burning. I have even purchased all different speeds of dvd (2.4x, 4x, 8x) but recently no matter what I do, they freeze. I was told once that Ridata's were good. I've even tried TDK's. Maybe it is my burner. :(

I have tried to update fireware for my lite-on burner but uncertain of which one I have and of course it has a alert about messing up burner. I cant tell by looking at it if it a 411s type of which one it is. I purchased it oct 03. Can anyone help me with this, that has done it before. Please and thank you :)

mshotrod,

two things - I USED to have a Lite-on burner - I used it for 3 days - on the 4th day i took it back for a full refund. problems with playback stopped (some of them would not play at all)

recently bought some tdk blank dvd media - glad I bought the 25 pack. I am currently using the rest of the tdk disk as freebies when I go to the park!

My Fuji 8x work fine

oh did you say you had some sony blank media? Yeah I didnt even bother playing freesbie with those - I just threw in the trash (sighs)...

i have been hearing alot about the "tiayo yuden" - I will be trying those as soon as possbile. It is really hard to find good quality meida at the stores because most of them are made in taiwan (ugh!)

Mshotrod, I recently replaced my pioneer with a liteon burner and could not be more happy with the results! I use Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R burned at 4X and everything I have tried them in plays them flawlessly. Your problem sounds to me like it is the media. What software are you using to back up your movies?

Zhelpz, I think the sony media that is made in japan are Ty's. If so, they should perform very well, but steer clear of the taiwan made stuff.

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

david,

Yes, once I found out a few things, I have started checking the package before buying (any blank dvds) at the store - and I was astonished at how many said MADE in TAIWAN! I have not bought as many since I have started looking at the packages. I am about to start buying online at some of the places other members have mentioned.

For awhile I used fuji 4x and they were fine and now it seems like no matter what I use they freeze mainly at the end. I have many diff. brands of dvd players in the house and they all freeze. I am currently using ridata 4x and 2x, they were actually doing fine for awhile and now they freeze. They even showed 5 stars when I purchased them online. I'm not sure if they are from taiwan or not. I am so frustrated about it, its not even funny. :) Some people tell me to update fireware on lite-on and others say its the dvd brand I'm using. (They are all +R not -R) ---which I don't think should matter because my recorder and players are compatible so...heck I don't know where to go from here.... :(

mshotrod, Try uninstalling - then re-installing your software, then continue to burn no higher than 4x with your good media. its really sounding like a software issue by your comments.

Well I have uninstalled DVD Decrypter and reinstall and used Ridata 4x disc and recorded it at 2.4 speed and my movie still froze 3/4 of the way thru. My burner is a lite-on but I never had trouble before so maybe my burner has issues? I thought at first it was my disc because when I went to 8x disc I started noticing it so I ordered 4x and 2.4 disc and now they ALL freeze. Heck maybe I need to clean my burner or get a new one?
