This crc error means: Cyclitical redundancy check. There's something wrong with the disc you are trying to rip.

1) Clean the disc, look for scratches/fingerprints/or any other abnormalities. It can also be a bad pressed disc "bum disc".Your dvd-rom must be able to read the entire disc to be able to rip it.If it runs into a bad sector, then you'll crc out.

2) On the newer sony arccos encryption,DVD Shrink will give that crc error. Enabling a background ripper called AnyDVD by slysoft will take care of that issue.

What type of disc is giving you this error? A new original disc/an old original disc/or a backup disc?

If original-newer release, please post the title and we'll confirm it.

You can also try DVD Decrypter . It's free and a more powerful ripper. It can rip through the sony encryptions.

I bought the new XXX state of the union DVD and it's the original and it's totally brand new out of the box. And my computer it's a HP Pavilion so I don't think it has a sony drive.

Also I use both the DVD Shrink and Decrypter. What I do it's I back up the disk with Shrink and when it's done it automatically opens Decrypter and burn the CD to a blank. What happens it's that Shrink doesn't want to open the disc.

pam3256,
Welcome to the forum. Try ripping the DVD using the last version of DVDDecrypter or use AnyDVD along w/ Shrink. If you use DVDDecrypter then after ripping the DVD in file mode -whole disk then use Shrink to compress. If you use AnyDVD they have a 21 day trial period and it works silently and decrypts the DVD as you are using Shrink.
You can then process it as you have been doing using DVDDecrypter to burn

Edit:
Shrink can not handle the newer encryptions as it has not been updated in at least 2 years and that is why I suggested you use AnyDVD. Also another free ripper is DVDFab Decrypter and they stepped up to the plate when DVDDecrypter ceased production. You can find both program by looking at the top of this thread under "software".

Anydvd is a heck of a program to rip those newer encryptions. It also works well to rip audio cd encryptions. Now that DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter is no longer updated, this program takes care of that issue.

They must have changed the free trial on it. It's a super program and well worth the money. This is one of the few programs that you have to buy and is highly recommended here.

Good Luck and burn on!

I am getting the CRC error when trying to rip to hard drive with One Tree Hill Season 2 Disc 6. I have tried 2 different discs and have used AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero Recode, DVD Clone.

pbo,
Welcome to the forum. If you have cleaned the disk real well and there are no visible scratches then more than likely you have a bad press. Sounds like who ever did the press did a lot of the same movie

pbo,
1 thru 5 might be fine but you are getting a CRC error code on the 6th disk. You will need to exchange it for a good 6th disk or find a good copy from a friend. The only ripper you have not tried is DVDFab Decypter but it rips movie only

After the 21-day trial for AnyDVD and CloneDVD expires, is it possible to uninstall both programs and then reinstall them and get a fresh 21-days? Maybe a dumb question but I wondered if anyone has tried it and made it work.

I just installed both programs a couple of days ago and if I like them well enough I'll likely just buy them anyway but I was just curious.

debo, if you have 2 hard drives, you can get the free version installed in one, then when it expires and you have to have AnyDVD again: Uninstall out of your one hard drive and download it again on the other hard drive. You'll probably have to re-format if you only have a single hard drive.I've got 2 harddrives on both my pcs so I had plenty of free trials. The bad thing: You only have to activate every once in a while, not on every backup.I leave mine turned off until I get that Crc error during the initial analysis in DVD Shrink.

pbo, I hear a lot of those season discs will have 1 disc out of the set that give crc errors. If AnyDVD doesn't take care of it and no visual defects: Then probably a bad press. There's another program called vobblanker. It can get through those bad sectors, but I'm not sure how you go out about it.You may want to try a search on that program.

debo and pbo: It rhymes, LOL

Hey, how do I change the burn speed using AnyDVD? Several have suggested to burn at 4x or less but I can't seem to find how to adjust it. What is the default speed for this program?

I was having similar problems recently and the problem ended up being with the new disc. I must have gotten a bad batch because when I used a copy from a new package the problem went away. The time that it worked I also ran the "deep scan" option on DVDshrink. I'd try either option or both in combination like I did and the problem should go away.

By the way, what movie are you trying to copy when you have the problems.

snodin,
Is it happening while you are ripping the disk? Clean the disk real well and then use DVDDecrypter File Mode- whole disk . Ifthe error persists then it is a bad press or has scratches. You might tell DVDDecrypter to ignore the read errors
