Ok, you've got DVD Decrypter, depending on the file size and the speed of your computer should only take about 20-30mins avg.. That puts it on your harddrive. It's not necessary to do so when you've got AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. AnyDVD decrypts it running in the background. All you need to do is pop in your disc, watch the little fox in the right hand lower corner. Once it goes from light red to dark red, pull up CloneDVD 2 and it will put the disc in a temp file while reading it then burn it, simple! Happy burning!!

rmc513, when I use shrink/nero I always rip the movie to my hard drive first using decrypter in file mode. Simply select the file decrypter puts on your hard drive using the open file button in shrink. I always have AnyDVD running in the background. This combo always works very well for me. I don't get in any rush so I always use the deep analysis and the other improve quality setting. For best quality always use good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn at 4X. Good luck and if you run into anything puzzling there are great guides for decrypter and shrink here on AD.

Since you say you have AnyDVD and Clone on the trial then use those programs. Just open AnyDVD and then put your movie in the drive, open Clone choose either Clone DVD movie or titles, which lets you re-author and get rid of what you don't want and Clone will compress and burn. You also have the option of Clone creating an iso file if you want. Here is a guide for the program, also one for Decrypter and Shrink.

Make sure you use decent media, Fuji, Maxell, Sony or Verbatim. Try to keep your burn speed down to 4x for less errors. Do not multi-task while encoding, no internet. Make sure that your burners firmware is up to date, even if it is new that does not mean the firmware is up to date.

I would really buy AnyDVD and Clonedvd2. They are probably the best programs out there right now.
(Sometimes I use AnyDVD and Shrink)

They work about 95 percent of the time. It takes me about 30 minutes to burn a movie because I only burning at 8x.

shrink and decrypter are free and great but, they take some use to it. why don't you beguin by using dvd95copy express, it is only $20 and is all in one application(decrypt, compress and burn)with good quality. but if you are willing to use shrink and decrypter, there are a few guys around here to help you use them. good luck.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

@ rmc513, I also have a SONY VAIO RA820G with the same burner you have. I have successfully ripped and backed up many DVD's using DVD SHRINK, along with NERO, and DVD43 running in the backround. Using these programs I can rip encryption and back-up a movie from the original source(DVD)in 25 to 30min. Once I have backed-up a film to my hard drive I'm able to make a copy 10 to 15 minutes using NERO. I would suggest you use these programs with your SONY VAIO. (NOTE) I never have changed any of the default settings in these programs and would not suggest you do until you a get feel for completing a successful back-up copy. The real plus SHRINK & DVD43 are free and are found here at "AD" NERO can be found here also but is included with many DVD burners sold everywhere.
