I thought at one time I saw some kind of scratch protection for DVDs. Is that something that is ok for burned DVDs? Or is it like labels where you shouldn't use them b/c they could cause problems in the future?

i saw a commercial on television for the ones you put on music cds to make them "not skip" during the playback of the songs..i don't know if they ACTUALLY DO what they CLAIM to do, but, i assume your query is along the same lines...i have never tried them myself either, so, i have no idea~

btw, there ARE scratch-resistent dvds available now by Verbatim...they are called Videogard, with the protective coating on them~ found here if you interested

as ddp would say, teach and learn~ :) have a good one lox~

@lox, let me know what kind of pricing you can get on Verbs, is it much better than retail/online pricing? i can get good pricing on TYs from my rep, but, would have to order even MORE than i already do...minimum is 5,000 pieces~ :) LOL

i only buy 2,000 at a time, 5,000 is a little steep for me~

TY and Verbs 4 life~!

The only good scratch guard is never playing the master. When the copy gets used up burn a new one. If the master is the "real deal" keep that as the master but if your master is burned, play the old master and keep the new one as the master. Only the pressed into foil DVDs are completely stable. The dye used in burnable DVDs reacts with light, that is how the burn process works. Sun light can age the dye fairly quickly, especially with cheap un branded disks.

There are some very informative threads devoted to scratches.

Are you talking about these skin protectors?
http://www.123electronics.com/PT_default.asp?PID=35

Protective disc skins
Protects discs from scratches
Snap it on, leave it on, even while it plays

I don't trust leaving them on in the drive. Also, if you put them on and take them off alot, getting any dirt in between the sheet and CD/DVD is no better. And if it gets wrinkled, it loses its stickiness. CD slim cases for me.

Update: Just check the reviews on these things at Amazon. Definitely a "no".
