while i will NOT knock Ritek G05s, they are good media in MY opinion and have served me VERY well, but, with the OLDER burners, it MIGHT be a good idea to make the switch to the Taiyo Yudens (as mentioned in your post
Quote:
Taiyo Yuden (DVD-R47VAL600SK)
yes, i KNOW my TYs so well that i can already tell you those are manufacturer numbers to the 4x DVD-R TYGO1s :)

i have a Sony DRU-710a, a few steps up from your model burner, while it likes the RITEK G05s just fine, it has NEVER had a problem burning the TYs (as mentioned above) @4x~ :) as a matter of fact, it WILL overburn these bad boys @8x if i set my burning program to MAX, but, i keep ALL my TYs burns @4x for the 4x rated media and @8x for the 8x rated media AND @8x for the 16x rated media (this is PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, i am not a role model, unless you are VERY comfortable with your burns, keep your burns @4x~ the TYs you speak of here Taiyo Yuden (DVD-R47VAL600SK) WILL burn @4x IF your model burner is up to date with it's firmware, which by the way is: 1.1a found here

good luck~ :)

maybe one day we can have a TY-VERBS-RITEK get-together around a campfire and share our stories with each other...LOL, too good to be true? ya never know~ :)

Could anybody tell me if the Ritek GO5 disks have have any checks carried out on them with respect to age degredation. I have been using these disks since the first came out but recently I have tried to use master copy of a home video made about 1 year ago to find that although it worked fine at the time it now appears as if a bad burn has occured and the picture is now blocking. If these disks have a problem I need to know before my childrens life story is lost.

I must also add that I make two copies of all disks. One as a 'master' copy and one as an 'in use' copy. The master copies are watched once and then packed away to only be copied when the in use copy is damaged.

I'd like to have 2 copies of everything but I have over 800 discs with various information on them. Doubling that would be some heck of a task. Although I have never scratched one or damaged one so far.

I'll just stick with what I have and take care of them ;P

If you cant dazzle them with brillance, then baffle them with bullshit...

I cannot argue with that. I have over 300 in use disks with master backup copies. Wife and kids have no appreciation of the work involved and the cosequence of badly looked after disks. I think its better to have a master copy but if the disks cannot be trusted to last I need to find ones I can rely on. Once the home movies have gone off the computer I'll only have the disks and need to be able to trust them to last. My master copies are watched once to ensure a good burn and them sealed away with the theory of only opening them up if the in use copy is damaged.

Ahhh I see. Ya, no one would want to loose valuable videos due to misuse. I guess it would be a good Idea to keep 2 copies of anything that you really want.

They're both good media, but honestly if I have to choose, I'll go with Taiyo Yuden. However, that's just me and the choice is yours.
