I'm brand new to burning so any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased an NEC ND-3540d. I've ripped only a couple of dvds (with DVD Decrypter), and burned with DVD Shrink (using Nero) and have had successful results. However, when trying to rip a certain movie, the dvd stops reading after a certain point. It's not a new release, and it is from a local establishment. It always stops at the same point on the same file...roughly around 800 meg. I've tried DVD Decrypter, DVDfab Decrypter, and DVD Shrink, and they all end up the same. Atleast DVD Shrink gave me some type of read i/o device error. The DVD does have a ton of scratches on it. Would it be that or possible the burner?

Looks like the scratches did it. You may try use e.g. IsoBuster to salvage the movie.

I would agree with scf_au it might be scratched or maybe a bad press.

Try using either IsoBuster or getting another copy.
