on random parts of the movies i copy there are "glitches" where random parts of the screen will get pixeley for a split second, or sometimes the entire movie turns into big greenish squares, or the movie just freezes up.
My burner is Samsung TS-H552U
Fugi DVD+R (made in Japan, those are the good ones right)
also had problems with sony DVD-R disks
I compress to 4300 MB
i've burned at 2.4 speed and still bad
I use dvd shrink to compress and nero to burn, tried using nero for both and had bad results
firmware seems to be updated, it's the "06" version, don't have the exact info right here, right now
HELP please

hmmm, that is a good summary, all sounds good so far. let's have the rest of the info, pls paste the LATEST section of Nero logfile which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT paste your serial number. it could be just a conflict or something...

On those pixellation and freezing issues:
How are you viewing them? Stand alone player or pc drive?
The rest of your info looks great. Good quality media,slow burn speed,but you can increase that backup target to 4360 mbs on the quality ty fuji media.They should code as Yuden000-T02
90% of the time those issues are while they are viewed on stand alone players.
These issues need verified:
1) Play one or two of those problematic discs on as many stand alones/pc drives that you can.Go visit your friends and family and slap those backups in their drives. Notice the area where those issues take place while you view them in other drives.
The more players,the better on this verification.
2) Play one of those problematic discs on the pc using that samsung burner drive to play it. Look at general area where those issues show up. This drive should play it's own backups at near perfection.
3)On your next backup,bump up that burn speed to 4x. I've noticed my yuden000-T02 backups are having a harder time being read by my pc drives on the ones burned at 2.4x-crc errors. The backups that were at 4x are near perfect. Very odd!!

i'm going to my parents tonight so i'll take some disks over there and try them out.
4x speed isn't an option for me, it has max, 2.4 and 1x
How do i get the 4x option
Also how do i verify that i have TY disks

Are you just using DVD Shrink to rip?
Have you tried using DVD Decrypter?

Maybe something is wrong with your DMA settings. You should be able to burn over 8x with TY discs (however 4x is the way to go).
Maybe you need some drivers for your motherboard. Look for Driver updates from the motherboard manufacturer's wesite. You might need an IDE driver or something.

Looks like a fine log report to me,they're even booktyped to dvd-rom.
Definitely test them out in other stand alones.
Another contributor to those issues is compression. Highly compressed backups can cause issues like this.

Ok,
i played them in my parents player and they worked better but not perfect. The parts that turned into the green squares didn't do that but there were still parts that got pixely. And the same is true for playing it on my pc.
So on a hunch I played the video files right off of my hard drive and there they were, the dang pixels. So i'm assuming i have a compressing issue, not a burning issue. right?
Could the problem be that i only have 512Mb of ram, i'm getting an additional gig for another reason, but i'd like to hear any other ideas.
BTW, I also checked DMA settings and they're good

512 mbs ram should be plenty. When you backup,just turn off all backgrounds apps like antivirus,firewall,messenger,etc. That will free up some memory.
I've only got 128 mbs rimm on my backup pc along with a p-3 celeron. Those backups look near original. The adaptive error compensation enhancements like max sharpness and max smoothness help out on the quality,but take longer. 12+ hours on that backup pc,vs 1hr on main pc using the max smoothness enhancement in DVD Shrink.

A couple things:
1) Make sure you are not multitasking/ or running any other programs in the background while the burning process is going on.
2) Make sure and run a virus check and spyware check.
3) Run Nero's Disc Quality Test to see how the disc looks. High PIE/PIF's will cause bad playback.
I just had my 1st bad YUDEN002 burn on one of my OZ discs...pixeled on menus and some chapters....ran it through to Disc Quality Test and it turned out to be a bad disc. Scan looks like $#!+.

logfile seems fine. all i can think to ask is were any of these movies converted from AVI's or whatever, as i've seen problems for instance where vso's DivXtoDVD has created the green scares/pixellation in it's conversion process.

I close everything out when i'm copying/burning,
but tomorrow i'm going to try the following stuff
1. make sure there isn't stuff running in the background and run my antivirus and spyware stuff
2. try compressing with the adaptive error stuff turned on
3. try using DVD Decrypter instead
4. try out neros disk quality test
you'll be hearing from me after i get all that done

creaky, i looked at that, sorry i didn't mention it but they're not AVI. (i don't think) They're just regular dvd's the most recent being the new family guy movie. (which by the way isn't actually a movie it's just the first 3 episodes of the next season)

i don't use labels,
i defraged last night, so maybe that'll help, but i've been having this problem from day 1. But maybe it was bad disks before, i was using sony DVD-R.
If the old problem was bad disks and the new problem is something else will that Nero disk quality test show the old ones as bad and the new as good? Or does that just show that they burned bad. My question is does "nero disk quality test" test for quality of actual disks or quality of the copy/burn

tvscreen, When all else has been examined, Make sure the original source, be it a DVD disc or online download is in good shape. Clean your disc media of finger prints particularly the source DVD because this can allow for you to back up a bad copy which will only multiply as you seek to make duplicates. This can easily be overlooked as the reason for the problem you described and can be the easiest solution.

That Nero speed test won't really show you much unless they are horrible burns. Try to download the free version of dvdinfopro. It can be a pain to download it,but there is a PIE/PIF error scan test in that program. Use the DVD-RW drive that burned it to run that scan. You can get it here:

When copying a DVD, if the original DVD is dirty (a library copy for instance) could that create a copy that freezes or skips?
I have started cleaning every DVD with a dvd doctor cleaning product, getting rid of all scratches and finger prints and I believe i have had a lot less glitchy copies
anyone have that result?
