Verbatim DVD-R 16x Problem burning

I was wondering if someone had any info to help me.
I have an External Memorex Dual Layer burner. I was able to burn the first 4 Verbatims but then every other one I have tried the burn comes up as failing to write to disc. But I doubt anything is wrong with the laser, Because everything else is able to burn except for these. No problems with Memorex, Verbatim +, TDK, Maxell. I'm confused as can be.

Update firmware again?
Something else internally in windows I can look at?
Re-install software?

hi, need more info, ie exact drive name and what speed you burning, there's 2 things for starters. oh and pls don't say 16x burns !

and what burning program you using ?

The memorex dvd writer is listed as F: drive is that what you mean?
I burn everything at 4x.

Using Nero 6 Ultra edition.

 So creaky .. I have a question for the Verb man .. Recently I purchased a BenQ DW1640. I have a s-load of Verbatim +R 16x discs, so I've been playing around. I've been burning identical .iso images at 2x, 4x 8x and 16x with my SolidBurn activated. All 4 give me great scans usnig CD-DVD Speed .. BUT the 16x gives me the best (95-100 quality), 8x second best (90-100) with 4x and 2x bringing up the rear (90-93) Player compatability with my 3 players and my 3 daughters' and 3 granddaughters' 6 players (100%) So, is it because I'm using awesome media or what is causing this mythbusting occurance?

@catfreak, You got me there, I only do a few scans once I try out different media for the first time, and a few crc scans as I think crc scans are the only true indicator, there's either crc error or there aren't. Other indicators I go by are watching the actual backups and sometimes backup from backups. Other scans are very bottom of the list for me I'm afraid..
