Hi

I´ve been trying to burn some stuff, but I keep getting an error message. Im using Imation DVD-R, and a LG GSA-4120B Writter. I tried PRINCO media, and I simply cant burn them. So I swithced to Imation, and the problems stopped. But recently I´ve been getting more error messages. If I try to burn at 4x I get a "Writting Error", and if I try burning at 8x, I get the PMA update error.

So my quetion is this... Is it a case of bad batch of blanks, or do I have a bigger problem??? And in case that the media is incompatible with my burner, which brand of DVD-R do you recommend???

Thanx

without your burn log,it could be a number of things.the discs i only use are sony8x DVD-R,if you post your burn log we will be able to tell you more, just check you have the latest firmware for your burner, even if your burner is new it doesnt mean it has the latest firmware.

Im using DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0 and Shrink 3.2.0.15 and Burning with Nero (I don´t know the version), and I´ve just updated my writter firmware.

This is one of the logs (when I try to burn at 4x)... I traduced some parts written in spanish, so bear with me.

Sorry... more doubts.

I´ve just found a burn log from January (printed on paper, so Im writting all the text so I can paste it in here) and It says that I was using 86% of the RAM memory,... and back then i was able to burn 49 out of 50 blanks. I found another printed log from april where Im using 83% of RAM... and in april I was burning 50 out of 50 blanks. Aprox. All DVD-R Princo and Imation.

Now im burning about 2 out of 5. Let´s suppose it´s not the RAM memory... I´ve reduced the size of the image to 4300, I´ve bought 4 blanks (2 samsung, 2 TDK) and the first one is fine, the second one at 4x failed just like my burn log from above, and the other 2 failed at 8x because of PMA update. I burned a fifth (Imation at 4x) and failed again.

I´ve just defrag the HD, closed all aplications while burning, updated my firmware, etc etc.

And Im still burning 2 out of 5 blanks.

I forgot to mention... If I want to burn something, I have to shutdown the computer, wait around 10 - 15 minutes, then start it over, and THEN I can write one DVD at 4x. If i want to burn another, I have to shutdown and wait 10 - 15 minutes all over again.

Again, any help is appreciated.

Thanx creaky... but so far I can´t burn Imation, Princo, TDK or Samsung. And a few months ago, I was able to burn Imation, Princo, TDK, Samsung, Sony, Verbatim, etc etc.

@tocayo, friend you need to increase memory and definitely upgrade to better media. I truly never have any issue with burning. 100 % burns all the time, unless by my own error, but they work perfectly. I use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatims, Sony's, and Maxell's (Japan) and burn at 4x.

Im going to improve the memory. That´s a fact. But my doubt is this... why a few months, with the same programs, same RAM, same burner, same media, same everything I was able to burn anything. The problems started around the first week of september. I haven´t installed anything. It´s the same machine as august... and suddenly I cant burn anything. Im going to buy more memory, but I keep thinking why in a few weeks suddenly everything fails.

That´s all

Imation used widely differing quality in disc manufacturers, you might pick up a pack of Imation one week and (by luck) you'd have discs manufactured by a 'decent' manufacturer, and another week you'd pick up an identical pack and end up with landfill manufacturer's discs.

Princo - i only know one person who uses them, and he recently sent me some just to play me up, and lo and behold they were awful.

TDK - you have to know which ones to pick for the same reasons as Imation.

you need to follow the advice of this and the other guys who've replied. then you'll be burning like us, for good and without wasting time or money on discs/redoing burns.

and as part of my signature states Verbatim DataLifePlus, Taiyo Yuden & Ritek G05 are the ONLY media allowed near my Burners.
