Just out of curiousity i want to know what u people think are the best dvd medias to use to burn dvd's. I used Ridatas to burn my dvd's. Recently i ran out of my Ridatas and bought a brand called Maxell, boy do they suck. The program i used to rip my dvd's doesnt even work with Maxells for some reason. Leave some reply's so i know what else is good out there besides Ridata. Thx

Actually, Maxells are usually excellent....Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Sony DVD-R are usually flawless, try them out. Here is a guide with the best disks and their media codes
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

you can find the codes of your disks using DVDIdentifier.

@ SaleenGT hi :)
there's nothing wrong with Ridata they are Ritek's own branded media
as you can see by my sig they are pretty much what i use exclusively
if you use -r as you state they will ID as RitekG04..x4 or Ritek G05..x8. the +r RitekR03 x8
in my opinion +r booktyped to -rom are a lot better. it makes the final product more compatible with all types of player
as DVDBack23 has said
before making any rash judgement on the Maxell chuck them through DVDIdentifier . just incase there is another reason why they didn't work for you

Oh no, i didnt mean that ridatas were bad. To me there actually excellent, never had any problems with them. Im using dvdxcopy platinum and whenever i use the maxell's it always screws up at the burning stage. And about that DVD Identifier, what exaclty does that do, and where can i download it?, if its even available for d/l.

The majority of maxells that are made in taiwan at the 8x speed are riteks: R03 and G05.The 4x speeds are Ty-g01/hitachi/Ritek-g04/ricohjpn-r01/and reports of cmags.Hitachi makes the 8x japanes maxells.
Sometimes a bad batch may get out,but that is true with any manufacturer.

Majority of problems with maxells are because of the many different manufacturers. You've got Taiyo yuden,Hitachi/Ricoh/Ritek/and even reports of cmags on their smaller quantity jewel packs in the dash 4x speed.

Use this free handy program to ID your media. Let us know what MID code is on those maxells if you have any left:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

Also, that program will tell you the burner model # and firmware version. Also post that back.

But,some burners do have trouble with certain media.A firmware update usually takes care of it.

Dash or Plus: It all depends on your DVD-RW drive and your stand alone players. Some will favor both/1 format/or maybe even none of them. Those players will tell you which format they like,or you'll get a no disc/dirty disc error right off the bat.

Myself, I bypass both plus and dash formats. I booktype my plus media and turn them into dvd-rom,the more universal format for playing on other stand alones/pc drives/and game consoles. Not all burners have the booktyping capability. The dash format can't be booktyped.

We do'nt recognize a brand name called memorex. We call it MEMOSUX!

I posted all the various manufacturers for Maxell media, all of them except for a handful of those cmags, are excellent.I only buy the japanese maxells/fuji/and sony +1x-8x. Lots of ty and hitachi MID codes in them.

Now take memosux. They may use a couple good manufacturers like ricoh and verbatim, but the majority of their media is Cmags.Very hard to pick out which ones have the good MID codes without breaking them open.
C-Magnetics is the likely manufacturer of those dash 16x memosux discs. Use that dvdidentifier to find that MID code. This poorer quality media has to have a reduced backup target/slower burn speed/and still the stand alones will have a harder time playing them.

Burners can have trouble with the newer 16x speed media. Firmware must be updated to accomodate the 16x speed.

There not Ridata (Ritek) are they?

And these are the DVD-R disk's that never gave me any problems. Does anyone know why the Memorex ones wont work when compared to this DVD-R?

@saleenGT

how well do you KNOW this "guy" that sells you your blank media? how much do you TRUST him? from my knowledge of Ridata/Ritek, there hasn't been a case YET where a supposedly Ridata/Ritek branded disc has come back with a Prodisc MID coding....

Ritek is a Taiwanese based company and as gurnard mentioned, Ridata is their OWN Ritek branded media~ i have used hundreds of the Ridata/Ritek 8x DVD-R G05 coding with much success, but have NEVER found a Ridata disc w/ the Prodisc coding...even the 4x rated ones~

i would be skeptical on your supplier, the guy who sells you media, either he's selling you FAKE Riteks or he's giving you a run-around for your money, assuming you don't know any better~ :)

and yes, as flip stated, MEMOREX SUCKS~! LOL CMC MAG *grumble grumble*

LOL cougar~ :)

"PISS YOU OFF" might be an understatement, but, i doubt they could or WOULD incorporate a line/string of nothing but @#$@#$@##^%@#%@#$

good day to you, Memosux, SUCKS~!

p.s. after reading some of the posts regarding the "reverse psychology" on my cousin, i decided to hold off on that only because if he DOES start listening to me, he will go out and load up on 500+ Memosux because i said so...LOL i am his senior by MANY years and despite being a very "independent/take no crap from anyone, even family" kid, he's becoming more mature now and knows what his older cousin is trying to get thru to him....so, with that being said, MEMOSUX does in fact, REALLY SUCK~! :)
