If I have two 700mb avi files (cd1 & cd2), join them and create a dvd iso with avi2dvd, will the resulting iso file fit on a single layer dvd or do I have to not join them and create two separate dvds? Or is there a better/easier way to get a split avi onto a single layer dvd? Up until now I've only done single complete 700mb movies.

thanks folks!!!

hi

avi2dvd will jion the 2 and do the lot for you, if it needs compressing it will do it!

also film machine is simarlar and does the lot to even burn!

both apps free

in avi2dvd name your files like this

Matrix CD1.avi
Matrix CD2.avi

in film machine it doesnt matter...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Thanks for the response, Rotary! However, your answer opens more questions:
How does AVI2DVD compare/contrast to film machine?

I've been using the HCEnc encoder in AVI2DVD but it doesn't look like that's available in film machine. Are the ones provided in film machine any better as far as picture/audio quality and/or speed? I've read that the CCE encoder isn't free and costs a fortune. Any additional insight that you (or anyone else) can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

hi

i use both but for different reasons film machine has a boost audio feature which i find most excellant, you just tick it - nice, as going avi to dvd can loose abit of audio volume...

avi2dvd i used to use till i found this feature but both apps yeild the same quality (to me no difference its like looking at the avi but its a dvd now!!!)

i use CCE with both apps avi2dvd can use CCE v2.76.00.23

film machine i use v2.70.01.05

HCenc is said to give a good quailty output, but personal preference really?

HCenc is in film machine get the beta version of TFM!!! v1.5.0.11

TFM can also use Canopus Procoder another well known app with good ratings and also a big price tag...

not treid the procoder route.

if i had to plum for one of the apps for avi i would chosse TFM, but avi2dvd does DVD to DVD (main movie only) with the use of CCE is great for those big film compressions, just like the well known DVDRebuilder/CCE combo

==============

EDIT

also TFM has DSRoba in now (4 passes of CCE in 1 go! ;-]) )

yup i said quality was good!

==============

do you use svcd/mpegs alot???

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

no - the quality i've seen for SVCD & mpeg was lousy so I stick with divx/xvid. Is "DSRoba" an encoder? Is CCE required to use it? I just DLed TFM beta v1.5.0.13. Hopefully I'll have time to play with it tonight. (I'm assuming that even though this is a beta it's stable enough to get the job done...)

Is there a free version of CCE somewhere?
