I was thinking of getting FFXI and the standard HDD that comes with it but it's seems a bit small. I've heard of PS2 HDD that are bigger. Will FFXI work with these other HDD or just their own?

it is a standered hd it is possible i am wrong but yah you can try getting a new hdd for it

The PS2 official HDD (which is what FFXI comes on) has a special firmware on it to identify itself to the PS2, any other harddrive will not work unless your ps2 is modded. And even then, FFXI probably woudlent work running on a modded ps2 with the chip running and an unofficial harddrive

actually if i hadn't deleted my ps2 drive for a xbox drive i could have sent you the files to actually format it and yes it is pretty much a standered drive i do not really believe that there is a significant difference just try a crappy 1gb hard drive in it to test (yes they do make 1 gb hdd) lol anyways im sure it does require a program as i did delete the partitions from it but it is an unlocked drive that is non lockable and may be opened directly from your cpu so it is possible that it can be formatted and it is possible to phoney up(make a fake) hdd for your ps2 maybe even a nice 120gb hdd

also if you know anything you need registrykeys and all kinds of stuff to play ffxi im an old ffxi player it is too expensive best way to play is cpu though it is also hackable but my thing is you need installer disk and keys wich cannot be found easier to buy an ffxi game
