ive heard fuji made in japan is made by ty yuden, so these are good. alot of name brands are made by different manufacturers. i like sony, verbatim, and as of lately maxell is what im using. u can by ty yudens online at merit line or supermedia store. the others are easy to find at the local shop. as far as tdk is concerned, i really dont know, but they make some really good cassette tapes.

ok, i PERSONALLY would suggest sticking with the Taiyo Yuden manufactured FUJIFILM ones...look for the MADE IN JAPAN on the wrapper...these are VERY excellent media...

i am BIASED in that i HATE TDK media, their own TTG01/TTG02 coding SUCKS on MY systems/burners/setup~ others have had good success with TDK, but, i am just giving you MY OWN opinion of TDK...they also use a variety of diff. manufacturers, so be very careful before buying them...

the same also holds true for the MADE IN TAIWAN fujifilm 8x DVD-R format, these are manufacturerd by Prodisc, ANOTHER average-to-below-average company in MY OPINION, not worth the price when you can get the Taiyo Yuden manufactured ones in the MADE IN JAPAN spindles :)

so, be careful, you don't need to heed my advice on TDK, as i am VERY much against them from MY OWN experiences, but, others have had better results; it's your money, know what to look for before spending your hard earned $$ on crap media~

i agree with Kivory dipset i dont like the TDKs either so your MUCH better off with the Fuji Film blank media as long as its the DVD plus R format (Made In Japan) as Kivory stated they will code out as Taiyo Yudens

actually, wanted to add that IF you can find the MIJ "made in japan" 8x DVD-R under the FUJIFILM brand, those TOO are also Taiyo Yuden media...they are the TYG02s :) this ONLY holds true IF you find the MIJ ones~ :) while they are RARE for me in the LA area here in Cali, you MIGHT have better luck than i do~ :)

It depends on which format that you get.

Tdk dash format is pretty good,but the plus format has a lot of cmags.Beware of TDK plus media.

Fuji have a lot of tys in their japanese media for both formats.

Plus format: Definitely the fujis
Dash format: Fuji,but tdks should be ok.

Find the Made in Japan on those wrappers for the better manufacturers.

Bought and burned about a 600 Fuji DVD+R's with the made in Japan on the side from Best Buy and they burned almost flawlessly every single time. Best Buy now only sells the Fujis made in Taiwan now and they are CRAP as far as I'm concerned. I have burned a few hundred of them already and have lots of problems playing them after they burn. Does anyone know where to get the made in Japan Fuji's or another brand the Best Buy sells that has the TY encoding on it that plays in most dvd players? Any help would be appreciated. My TDK DVD+R's that were made in Taiwan burned and played better then the Fuji's made in Taiwan. I burned about 500 of those.

Saugmon, Is this the colored discs they are selling in the 30 pack? They are the ones with th TY encoding and burn great? I saw them online with free shipping too. I guess I'll go to the local store first to see if they have them and make sure they say MIJ on them. Never seen the colored ones before. You don't think there is any problem with them, do you? That's the first multi colored dvd+r's I've ever seen. Thanks again for the info

@creaky

those in the UK seem pretty good, but do NOTE their disclaimer...they cannot guarantee which ones they will send you, either the MIT=RitekR03 or the MIJ= YUDEN000T02~ :) so, you basically got a 50/50 chance of getting the "better ones" (in my opinion the TYs), not that the Riteks are bad...but, for the same price, i would PERSONALLY go with the TYs~

@kenkell

yes, the 30 pack colored discs are the ones everyone has been talkin about, the 8x dvd-r/dvd+r that are MADE IN JAPAN are BOTH Taiyo Yuden produced...TYG02/YUDEN000T02 respectively~ :) on sunday, i picked up 13 packs of the 8x DVD+R 30 spindle colored Fujis all Made IN Japan, and 2 packs of the 8x DVD-R 30 spindle colored Fujis MIJ also~ had to go to 4 stores to find the last 2 spindles of the DVD-R variety that were MIJ~ :)

i would personally suggest you stay away from the 8x DVD-R that are MADE IN TAIWAN, Prodisc is not a good manufacturer in MY OPINION, for the same price, definitely get the TAIYO YUDENS :) good luck

:) creaky

by the way, i am not familiar with the conversion rate in Euro, is 20p a good/disc price? what is considered a "good sale" price for you over in the UK? as in per disc...?

how much were the Verb/TY manufactured discs you recently got a boatload of? per piece?

just curious...just wanted to compare to see approximately the price discrepency between U.S. markets for media and Europe~ :)

hi,. that's one of the reasons i get so vocal whenever i come across fellow UK posters arguing that the good stuff costs more than cheapy/subpar media.

the cheapest i can get Verbs for is tubs of 10 for £2.49 which obviously equates to 25p each -an absolute steal.

so whenever i buy Verbs now from svp the prices for Verbs are currently -

8x +R are £2.49 for tub of 10, thus 25p each
8x -R are £6.49 for tub of 25, thus 26p each (TY Verbs!!)
16x +R are £8.48 for tub of 25, thus 34p each
16x -R are £7.48 for tub of 25, thus 30p each

The cheapest i've got 8x TY (-R) for, was £35 for 100, so 35p each, i think the 16x TY are £43 for 100

i still haven't figured out Euros myself as i've rarely come across them, though i think the conversion rate is currently 1pound to 1.76 dollars or so...

@ creaky hi :)
i know you have just tried the G05's
if you are going into the +r i think i would stick with the printable Ritek (DV3189 at SVP) 8x +r R03
at 19.9p each thats not a bad price. thats the one i use
@ kivorry 666 hi :)
sorry DOC miss read what you said about the Fuji 8x +r didn't realize 000T02 where TY's. so have ammended what i said and deleted the nonsense

@gurnard

no biggie~ TY/Ritek/Media ID coding...we ALL get them confused sometimes...there is just TOO many of them and too much to remember :)

@creaky

ok, thanks for the educational information, so, i guess the 20p/disc is VERY good, considering you stated that 25p/disc was an "Absolute steal"...not too bad then for those fuji's despite them not guranteeing which ones you would get...not bad at all~ :)
if you DO get lucky and get the MADE IN JAPAN ones, you will have saved yourself CONSIDERABLE amount of $$ compared to the 35p/each for the 8x Taiyo Yudens DVD-R format~ (im assuming the 8x DVD+R format is the same price for the TYs?) besides, the 8x DVD+R fujis are booktypeable~ another PLUS for you~!! (no pun intended) worth a chance? maybe...

the TY 8x +R printables for are £46 for 100, looks like they don't do non-printables in TY, or 16x in the +R, but they change their stuff all the time. all good stuff..

Went to Staples yesterday for the colored Fuji DVD+R 30 pack for $9. They are all made in Taiwan! Anyone know where to get Fuji +R Diss cheap in Maryland that are made in Japan! Seems all the local stores in my area carrying Fuji's are made in Taiwan and they are crap!

kenkell yeah the MIT are prodics which are junk .your best bet is buying the Taiyo Yudens online there run you about 34 bucks a 100 and supermedia store had a sale this week for TYs 200 for 49.99 so look for the deals online ,meritline.com ,rima.com and newegg.com also are all good retailers

Best Buy carries Fujis. It is certainly about personal taste. Tys are good no doubt about it. I've had great luck with the TTG02 (DVD-R) TDKs.

i agree with you neodave about everyone having their own personal tastes, but, where we are on COMPLETELY OPPOSITE sides of the fence is MY experiences w/ TDK media~ :)

the TTG02s that YOU have had a lot of success with are some of MY worst discs that i have ever tried...i put those TTG02s on the same level as my crappy CMC MAGs (on MY setup of course, others will have their success with TDK as well).

so, i think it's safe to say that EVERYONE will have their own preferences with media, whatever brand, whatever manufacturer, just wanted to point out that i REALLY DISLIKE TDKs own manufactured media, this is just MY personal opinion of them...YUCK!
