A couple questions: What type of media are you using DVD-R's or DVD-RW's? Which brand are using? Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim DVD-R's tend to work well with the PS2 laser. Certain versions of the PS2 have a difficult time reading DVD-RW's. It sounds like you are burning the games correctly. Here is the correct usage of Swap Magic with the slide card: http://www.saveware.com/SlideCardUsageAndInstall.htm Here is the correct usage for the flip top: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/swapmagic/page1.cfm
Good Luck.

Yeah the media could still be the problem. I used some silverback CDR's to back up FF7 and they worked fine. I used the same silverback CDR's to back up Legend of Dragoon and the PS2 laser wouldn't read them, it'd just sit there making a "clicking" sound. I backed LOD up on Memorex CDR's and it worked fine. It differs on a game to game basis and according to what type of writer you have. Check here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/206583 I don't expect you to read all 85 pages, just enough to get an idea that the type of media you use CAN make a big difference. Before you go blaming Swap Magic and everything else, try a little better DVD-R and if it still doesn't work, then you can eliminate that as a possible cause.

Like Tokijin said, I think 90% of all problems people have are media and burner-related; people are just not using the right media and speeds for their particular burner. Contrary to popular belief, the lowest speeds are *not* necessarily the best speeds for burning. So try to figure out which media and speeds work best with your burner and go with that.

All games are not equal when it comes to disc reading. Some are more intensive and require more streaming and data throughput (i.e., a lot of EA games), whereas others are really light on disc reads (i.e., Worms games). So a burner can churn out equally crappy burns (that is, discs which don't read well), but it won't affect games which are light on disc reads as much because less data gets streamed to the PS2. That doesn't mean the burn is good; it just means your PS2 can't really tell the difference (though there is likely an increased strain on your PS2 laser, too). On the other hand, read-intensive games (say, GTA games or EA sports games) will suffer a lot despite being burned under the same exact conditions; they may outright not load, freeze up, have sound/video glitching, or even cause your PS2 to give you the dreaded Disc Read Error message. Also, if you have to do a lot of rebuilding on games which work normally for other people, it's likely you're producing bad burns as well.
