Apparently

- GBA Emu - Currently In Development (roughly 75% complete)
- N64 Emu - Not Gonna Happen!

That's great for the GBA, But why can't they make an N64 emulator like they did for Xbox

The processor or graphics probably can't handle it. Which is weird, because if it can handle PSX games and PS2 games I don't understand how it cant handle N64 games.. have a look around on the net. If I find anything Ill post back as I'm interested in it myself.

Well a PS2 has a 300mhz processor and the Xbox is over double that. The N64 has a 100mhz processor. The general rule of thumb is the emulating system needs to be roughly 10 times the power as the system being emulated. The PS2 falls well below that for N64. BTW PS2 doesn't emulate PS1 or PS2 games. It was designed to play them by Sony. That's a lot than a homebrew emulator.

Mik3h no problem. And for Kyle I think the biggest problem for the Xbox emulation the PS1 is the fact the Xbox controller has less button than the Playstation controller.

I actually used the PS1 Emulator on the XBox and it was GREAT! All the Frames looked alot better on the Xbox than the PSX and PS2 playing a PSX game. I played Resident Evil 3 on it and it looked neat. It also has GameShark cheats built in it. I use to use it until my Mod Chip Almost screwed up my Xbox and the chip broke. Before that happened, I was playing almost all my PSX games on my Xbox( that was before I got my PS2. The Guy/Monster thing named the Nemesis looked pretty cool with all the rendering power.

Has anyone then seen or heard of an CPS1/CPS2 Emulator for the PS2? CPS1/CPS2 are arcade machines that play Marvel -VS- Capcom on them and I have a CPS1/CPS2 Emualtor on my PC and play Marvel -VS- Capcom on it most of the time when I am not playing my XBOX, PS2, or Dreamcast.

To bad they don't make a Resident Evil Game for the Xbox(official one) that you could buy in the stores. That would look pretty good with the Xbox's rendering power. They could make a special release version of the game. But this probably won't happen since Xbox bought Bungie and made it where Halo and Halo 2 would never be seen on the Playstatoin 2. To bad they can't just develope games for each other like Sega does. Sega found out they can make more money developing the games and selling them on other systems than developing another system and having to develope another type of media that it would read so no other systems could read it

THe PS2 probably cant or doesnt read the N64 rom files as well as the xbox does. I mean Xbox is basically a PC, and a ps2 is gaming cosole and a dvd player.

The PS2 has 4 indepent Processors that handle the graphics I think, why wouldn't it work. Iv seen emulation that I though wouldn't be able to be done such as bleemcast. Bleemcast was made by Bleem Allowing people to take certian PSX games and play them on their Dreamcast such as tekken 3, Grand Turrismo, and Metal Gear. Those games looked alot better on the Dreamcast than they did on the PSX. The Dreamcast doesn't even have as much power as the PS2 does for rendering and it makes some of the games look just as good. So why wouldn't the PS2 Be able to handle N64 Roms?

Back to the topic ;)

Hehe, my replie had already been typed for me by a guy on another xbox forum. How Nice.
Quote:
do you have a brain in your head?? I've read some really stupid crap. There is NO PS2, GC, DC emu's and there never will be.

- the following was Posted by deusprogrammer on xboxscene in the emulation forum..

I am by no means an expert on the subject but I know how emulation works. I wanted to write this as a topic that could be pinned for newcomers to read before they start asking for PS2, Gamecube, and DC emulators.

Every system has it's own unique and different hardware. And each system has it's own individual coding methods and SDKs. So obviously you can't just play a PS2 game on the XBox and so on. Because the coding is different and written for a different set of hardware.

What an emulator does is recreates the specific hardware for another system with software. And then that software runs on the hardware of the host system. So just imagine for a second. Two systems that are just about on par with each other as far as speed goes. The only way to get full speed would be to have the true hardware for the system. Software could never hope to emulate a system that is close to the same speed as the host hardware. For a good example, think of hardware rendering vs software rendering...which is faster? The hardware of course.

Another way to think of it is when you put a game in your PS2, the game just runs right off the hardware. If you were trying to emulate it on the XBox, first it would go into the software and have it's code and commands changed to the native language of the XBox, and then that new code would be run. And being that the systems are so closely matched in speed, the emulation would be very, very, very unplayably slow. And the problem with PS2 emulation is there really isn't even a working one for the PC yet.

Now why can older systems be emulated? Because compared to a PS2, their hardware is very simple to manage with an emulator. The XBox can manage the code fast enough to keep the game going at a steady clip. I know this isn't an in depth explanation, but I thought I would put it in laymen's terms.

Basically...here is the gist of what I just said...PS2, Dreamcast, and especially Gamecube emulation is not going to happen on the XBox. It just can't handle it. Granted one could be made, but it would be so slow and ugly it wouldn't even be worth the effort.

Anyways...case closed...after reading this there should be no reason for anyone to ask questions about why PS2 emulation can't be done.
Yeah... What ^he^ said :P

hey Mik3h
I think the guy who posted the thing about emulation was talking about emulating on a computer. I do have a dreamcast emulator called Chankast, and it works great with my Sonic Adventure 2( Where you can be ethier Sonic or Shadow. The fps is at least 60FPS and has sound. And Bleemcast allows you to play PSX Games on your Dreamcast with out making any modifications to your system. All you do is pop in the special disk and let it boot. Once it is done booting, swap the disk with the PSX original/copy and close the lid. Then press start and whatch it boot the PSX game. The dreamcast plays the PSX game at full speed with better graphics (I have Bleemcast for Tekken3).
