Firstly, try using a DVD-R disc instead. Also, what speed are you burning the disc at? You could also try a different brand as they may be cheap made rip-offs - unlikely, but possible.

Agree with above, have had better luck with -R
DVD-R 8X speed
You can save the +R for doing movies, they will work
great for that.
also rumors of this game having a dummy file and needing to
be rebuilt, but i have not done it yet so i can not say for
sure.

Can a few people confirm that?

i'll grab some DVD-R when i go out. probably Sony, Fuji, or Verbatim.

i don't know about dummy files but the file really didn't burn that much space on the disc.

the dvd is 16x but on DVDdecrypt i'm burning at 1x

v7s, if I remember correctly, generally work with DVD+Rs. I can't say this from personal experience, though, since I have a v12. Anyway, burning at the lowest speed is not necessarily the best idea; it's best to test what speed is optimal with your burner and a particular brand of media and then stick with that. For instance, I backed up a bunch of games at 2.4x on Ridata DVD+Rs (they largely all worked great) until I discovered that 4x produced better results (completely fixed a game where the intro consistently skipped). Oh well.

Burning speeds aside, part of your problem might stem from the fact that you don't have a complete ISO -- clearly, your image is rebuilt, since the actual game DVD has a TOC of 3.84 GB. This might be affecting your game experience as well; in fact, I have a strong suspicion this is the case.

Personally, I don't understand why people rebuild games willy-nilly because I have rarely had to rebuild or patch games myself (a grand total of seven problem games, if I remember correctly). Most problems, I think, are attributable to a) bad media; b) bad burning speeds; c) bad PS2 laser. Or perhaps a combination of all the above. Rebuilding every single game you have is not going to wave a magic wand and make everything better; in fact, it might cause problems in some cases. Dreamcast backups, for instance, often functioned improperly if not properly dummied (since the dummy file pushed game data to the outer edges of the disc, where it was more readable), though they of course used CDs rather than DVDs.

Anyway, my advice is twofold: try to find what media and speed works best with your burner and PS2, and also try to use a full image of the game for burning rather than a rebuilt one.

Lots of people like Verbatims/Taiyo Yudens because they are considered the best. I can't guarantee +Rs work great with your particular PS2, but technically, they should be fine. Plus, Verbatims, which you already use, are considered great.

I think the main problem is your ISO, which is rebuilt for no good reason. You can try burning at 4x and 8x, since I don't think burning at ultra-low speeds with high speed media is such a good idea, but I don't know if that will solve the issue at hand. 'Twould probably be best to use a new image entirely.

If you're talking about the so-called Protocol release, yes, the combined rars should total about 1.16 GB. But the extracted ISO from the rars, which is what I'm talking about, should be roughly 3.84 GB.

Well owning a V5/6, V7, and V12 i can tell you from
my experience that -R has worked much better
And as stated above, i would only rebuild games that actually
need it. Those that freeze at the loading screen when burned
1:1 usually do, but there are very few of them that i have had to do.
Like the new one Total Overdose. Unless you use a chip you will
have to rebuild it.
I would also get some 8X speed DVD's
I have seen a few people write posts here and say they can't get
their games to work, and they used 16X
With 16X i would burn at no less than 4X.

DVD+Rs work just grand for me, and I use a v12 with SM 3.3. But then again, so have the Ridata DVD-Rs I've tried.

As you can see from here [ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/176791 ], there are maybe a grand total of a dozen games which actually need to rebuilt or patched -- everything else should work fine with Swap 3.3/3.6. Some possible unlisted problem games are FIFA 2006 (not out in retail yet), Bloodrayne 2 (never bothered to get that game out of lack of interest), and Total Overdose (I don't bother with PAL games for the most part, and I haven't seen any stores around with the NTSC version yet). Ultimate Spidey works just fine for me without rebuilding -- which makes sense, since it is only 3.84 GB.

I burned Ultimate Spiderman without rebuilding and the game wouldn't load.I used Verbatim + and - R and still nothing until I rebuilt the game and now it works like a charm.

Also I use swap magic 2.0 with every game I have and I have over 100 games to date.

I suggest rebuilding the game because it works everytime a game has a dummy file in it.

To me it doesn't matter if they are PAL or NTSC
Some games like Farenheit (aka Indigo Prophacy in USA)
get cut up and sensored more here than over in Europe.
And with great things like the mod chip you just don't run
into any of the usual problems.
no rebuilding or patching, no swapping, no problems playing
games from any region, no screen cut off.
Gotta love the chip!

Okay,

I'm normally one that rebuilds games myself, thinking "just incase." Well, Ultimate Spiderman is the first game to cause a problem after I rebuilt it. As said in another post, the intro to the game stuttered visually, but the sound was fluent.
So, I went back and just burned the original image of the game. It loaded superbly, smooth and vivid as could be.
Don't waste your time rebuilding this one. Oh yeah, I use Swap Magic 3.6 with the new Slimline PS2 system.

End game,
