For some reason, lately, i am getting burn errors every time I try to burn a dvd. I rip them with dvd decrypter, re-author with dvdshrink, and then burn with dvd decrypter. The dvd's i am using are 16x verbatim's being burned at 8x, their code is MCC-004 so that is fine... This is the method i've been using for burning dvd's for quite a while and not had a problem until now. I try burning the dvd's with decrypter and about 3% in i get this error everytime:

Hi there,

Are you burning with Nero ? (I know in this case you were burning with DVD Decrypter)

If you are, provide us with the FULL LOG please.
There's a lot of information in there. (Remove your serial #)

You seem to be using good media...

Have you burned THOSE specific 16x media before ? (Without problems) !

Maybe you need a Firmware upgrade to help recognise those new 16x media properly ?

Do you have the latest firmware that's available for your burner ?

My 2 cents !

A quick way to check your firmware is to open Decrypter, click on Tools, then Drive. Down at the bottom of the menu, click on "Check for Firmware Updates". This will take you to the correct firmware page at http://www.rpc1.org , if you have an open internet connection.

Latest firmware, i've burned over 100 dvd's with that media with no problems, def not the media. And i'm not burning with Nero, never burned with Nero b4 (costs too much).

Maybe it's time to slow down to 4x or less?

Just a suggestion.

Anything's possible. You might have gotten a bad batch of media. Your original might have scratches or is bad pressing, etc... Besides, if you're producing coasters anyway, what would it hurt to try and slow down the burn speed? Or try a different media brand?

This happens to all of us, we get into a rut or comfort zone in doing something and just because we've done it hundreds/thousands of times it must be the "only way" to do it. All I'm saying is explore other possibilities/resolutions. If they don't work, then you've eliminated that particular possibility, and then you move on. And so forth.

Good Luck!

This is the same batch as i've been using, so i dunno. Is there nothing else i can try to stop this problem? I mean, this was working perfectly fine like a week ago, there's got to be something wrong other than media...

hi

its all down to the discs and how they are made, us regular ADer's see it all the time, thats why we guided you this way...

the consitency/quailty of some brands change even in same batch packs

so to be safe 4x is the rule of thumb, if you got 8x then that was lucky in my book...

you can help decrease the problems by buyimg known good stuff like verbs/TY/ritek etc

but always check the id codes of the discs info!!!

Lol, they are good media, as i said i've burned over 100 at 8x with no problems, and the code is still MCC-004 as it has always been.

Update:

I've tried burning a couple dvd's 4x and they burn but they skip when i play them (which never even happened on 8x). And now, the burner is not burning cd's right. I have tried 52x verbatim lightscribe (even on 4x a couple times), 52x memorex (which i have been usin for quite a long time, tried from one old batch and one new batch). My cd players will not play these cd's burned in the last few weeks, sometimes they will not load sometimes they will just sound like a bad burn (constant skippiness). Now, it's hard to say now that it's just the media, I think there's definitely something wrong with the burner, does anyone know what could be wrong?

That doesn't sound good. Ppl usually recommend cleaning the drive, however I had a movie skip on me the other week. I religiously stick to 4x, defrag often, don't multitask during burn, I use only decent media, keep each and every movie at 4300mb yada yada yada. Anyway, I reburnt and crc checked the movie I originally had problem with, then a couple nights ago I was watching a movie I'd just burnt and it froze near the end of disc - this was on a new-fangled Verb-TY disc, and I don't tolerate coasters anyway, however that was the last straw. Burner got replaced yesterday and I had to crc check the other 9discs I'd done that night. Turned out two had corruption so I redid those 2 on the new burner and crc checked them out of paranoia. I'm gonna crc check a fair few discs after each burn, for a while until I can be sure that it was all down to burner failing. It might just have needed a clean as I'd only done about 2000 burns on that burner, but I'd have never have trusted it again as I don't do or tolerate coasters whatsoever.

in my opinion, seems like it's NOT the media...i THINK it might be time for a good lens cleaning OR to simply just get a new drive/burner~ :)

i have burned hundreds of the MCC004 @8x, with NO problems as you have stated wrathloki...so, my success is just as good as yours IF not better :) while yes, i sincerly believe in a bad batch now and then, even by Verbatim, but, this issue seems to be with your DRIVE rather than the media, i come to this conclusion when you stated this

When i clean the drive should I just use an air can or a cleaning cd with the brushes? I don't know how it could be the burner i've had it for like 6 months.

My (2 cents) - I am sure I do not know nearly as much as the rest of you, but I DO want to add just one more item. I have had the same things happen to me as well. Would copy many good titles using 8x speed, no changes, the usual comp maintenance, then BAM!!!! All of a sudden getting a bunch of caosters.

A couple things I do not recall anyone mentioning. Sometimes a simple SOFTWARE UPGRADE (not necessarily of the burning software being used, but ANY software upgrade) can cause a whole new plethora of problems never hvaing previously. On more than one occassion I have upgraded my burning software, or Virus protection software, then all of a sudden started having issues. I stopped having issues after changing my virus software, and every now and then may have to skip the newest upgrade of other software until bugs get worked out. Like I said, just wanted to mention those things too. I am not disagreeing with any of the above comments, just adding to them.

Well, it could be software I suppose, Itunes updated a couple weeks ago. How could i fix what is wrong if it is software related? And once again, when i try cleaning it should i use one of those cd's with the brushes also? Or just air?

Hi, I am having exactly the same problems as Wrathloki. I am convinced it is not the media but the burner. How do I clean the burner? Or replace it? What should I try to do right now? Thanks.

wrathloki,

When my problems were software related, I would usually just do a system restore and it would fix it. HOWEVER!!!! PLEASE NOTE!!!! ... I did not do a full system restore, I always CREATE a RESTORE point BEFORE I upgrade any software, then if my system acts stupid after the upgrade / or new installed software, I first uninstall the software in question. If that does not help, I restore it back to the retstore point that I created. (Usually my restoration point is no more than a 24 hour difference of what I did)

However, I would be surprised if your itunes is causing the problem. Is that all you have recently updated? Usually you will see problems right away after a software update/installation. If you were good for those two weeks after your update, its probably not that - but if you started having the problems very soon after that update, you may want to uninstall back to your previous version and see if the problem goes away.

Well i've cleaned the drive with an air can and a cleaning cd and no change. Could winamp be doing this? I installed that a few weeks ago. And zhelps, I haven't been burning things all that much the past couple weeks up until the day before i started this thread, just a cd here and there but that's about it, so it could have very well been a while ago this happened.

Ohh and one more thing i'd like to add, a couple weeks ago i also did a mass purging of my computer, uninstalling a bunch of crap I didn't want/need, and did a mass spyware purging also (Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti-Spyware). After I did all that i defragged. Could this be related in some way? I didn't uninstall anything that would be integral to anything with burning, but maybe something could be linked, I dunno, what do you guys think?

After reading you last post, I am thinking more and more it could be a software issue. You have made alot of changes in the past few weeks though - fixing could be like a needle in a haystack.

Is it possible that you could do a retsore from a month ago or so BEFORE you started all the changes (you can always do an un-restore by the way). Of course, even by doing this may not necessarily prove it, but if everything goes back to normal it would be a good start. Have you put any very important info on there in the past few weeks? If so, back it up and try if all else continues to fail.

Did you ever get a new burner to test?
